Nice proof of concept and the art is really good!

Developer

many thanks! ^v^

Submitted(+2)

It's a really cool proof of concept and I can totally see this being expanded on, beautiful art as well especially the space background! I noticed sometimes the character has a line artifact that flickers above it, I saw a comment on a previous game about using the canvas_item's stretch mode that seemed like it solved a similar problem. Here's the comment page: /jam/godot-wild-jam-93/rate/4581300?before=2#comments

Hope that helps, nice work overall!

Developer(+2)

Oh shoot! Thanks a ton! I'll definitely look into it now that ive got more time!!

Submitted(+2)

Well, like you said it feels unfinished. BUT, the idea is great, the gravity feels nice and the art is absolutely stunning. Congratz on you two! Ping me if you upgrade it after the jam, I'll gladly play it ~

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! I'll try to send a ping your way — if you really want an update maybe follow @Rainwad or me...

I like the mechanic, but at this stage it is very unfinshed, no objective, no audio. When completed it could be whole lot of fun, but at this stage it gets boring pretty quickly after a few rounds

Developer

yeeee, both of us are very aware of the lack of things to do --- post-jam iterations shall hopefully have more of our ambitious plans properly packed in! glad you like the base mechanics, at least :P

Developer(+1)

Wow! You played a few rounds?? I'm glad there's enough there for some people to try it more than once lol

Submitted(+1)

yeah, the mechanic is just cool

Submitted(+2)

Interesting game. Good job on the destructible terrain & planet gravity, you don't usually see that sorta stuff in jams. The inventory controls took me a hot minute to figure out tbh haha

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The terrain is really just Godot's basic tilemaplayer! The system is actually really well made and fairly powerful!!!

Submitted(+1)

I never would have expected that! But yeah that makes sense

Reminds of the game Planetoid Pioneers.

I couldn’t figure out what to do in the shop besides give all my money to my Benefactor. Is this game a comment on the cruelties of capitalism?

Developer(+2)

I haven't heard of Planetoid Pioneer; it looks like a very silly game! Also, of course this game's gonna capitalist critique, but, umm,, i'm glad the incredibly unfinished mechanics are also read as commentary haha

Developer(+2)

hell yea!!! Cortex Command -- made by the same devs as Planetoid Pioneers -- was actually a big inspiration for me when Violet and i were first spitballin' ideas

(and ye!! as Vi's said, it'll definitely be a comment on that, but it'll hopefully also have proper functioning shop mechanics in the future as well :P)

I really like the way the camera is anchored to the center of the asteroid as you pivot around it. Character controls are nice and fluid, and the UI art in particular is very appealing. Great work so far!

Developer(+2)

The camera is actually even simpler — it's a slightly weighted anchor to the cursor position. I've been practicing abiding by 'kiss' (Keep It Simple, Stupid). The character controls are **extremely** basic with a bit of momentum thrown in there. I really gotta listen to myself instead of re-writing the game 100 times just to get it to work

The art is beautiful and having a 2D game around a round world is very cool, I don't recall playing anything that's done that (at least not with the ability to mine it). I could see this being very cool if you wanted to keep developing it!

Developer(+2)

We're definitely gonna keep developing it in the (hopefully near) future! If you really like the art, give @Rainwad a follow — or me as I'm gonna rope her into more game jams since she roped me into this one!

The mining a comet whilst it's hurdling through space is a really cool concept, and the art is really cool. I feel like I might get motion sickness from the speed of that background though!

Developer

Thanks! I don't know if we can do much about the motion sickness, though... the spinning is fairly essential to the game (maybe there's a version where the camera is stationary for those with motion-sickness?)

I get where youre going with it. From an accessability perspective I think it'd help if youre planning on further dev. Alternatively , you could look into parrelex background and seeing if that helps or achieves the result you want.

Credits screen is wacky, really cool! shift clicking the slots to sell items would be nice, but other than that really expressive game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Shift-clicking will *definitely* be in the final version of the game, but I was rushing to get it —at the very least— in a playable state
