Moving to Spain + WWCG Translation + Killer Trait updates... and more?!

INTRO

Hello, there, guys! How are you doing?
Hope you're all well and, if not, I hope that things get better for you and May is a kind month to you.

It's been a long while since I've made a post talking about the games and personal stuff in general, so I thought this would be a good time to write one, now that I have some time! Be warned that this is a long post so if you're not in the headspace to read it all, just skip to the sections that you're interested in.

MOVING TO SPAIN

For those that don't know, I'm currently in the process of moving to Spain. Permanently.

This is a choice that I've been contemplating for a while but I finally decided to go through with it last year, after a semi-mental breakdown where I cried my eyes out to my Dad. Long story short, my previous job sucked ass and it consistently worsened my mental health. I felt empty, mistreated, stagnant and generally like what I did was never good. This also had a big impact in my progress towards Killer Trait.

There are other reasons, of course, but those are more personal and I'd rather only share them with my close friends and therapist.

One reason that I can share, though, is that Argentina is just really not a good place to work in video games. There's not really an industry here and lots of companies fire staff on a regular basis or even end up closing for good. Of course, I know that the state of video game companies in general is dire in many countries, but in a country where the industry is barely existent? I really saw no future staying in Argentina.

I absolutely LOVE telling stories, and that is a passion that no one will never EVER be able to take from me. Being an indie dev is EXTREMELY HARD, but, despite those hardships, it's still something I want to continue doing 'cause I feel like it gives me purpose and I love how it feels to share your stories with the world.

I don't know if I can say the same about working for other video game companies, at least those involved in making mobile games. It messed me up too much, and I don't think I can view them the same again. I'd love to work in a small indie game company (excluding mobile game companies), if possible, but at this point I'm honestly open to explore other things that could give me a monthly income (and continue with indie game development as my side hustle).

Anywho, back to the 'moving to Spain' thing, yes, it's happening. I'm moving with my cat Kiki, which has also been a big source of stress 'cause I've never travelled with a cat on a plane before, so anxiousness is at an ultimate high. But I've been doing my best to make her used to her travel bag and, thankfully, I'm going to have someone who literally migrates people with pets for a living accompanying me.

Once I'm in Spain, it's going to be some time until I properly settle. Thankfully I have some family over there, but I will still need to get stuff in order, get used to living there and, eventually, getting my stuff from Argentina shipped to me. I don't know how long it will take, but it's going to be a PROCESS and I can't promise that I'm going to be at my most productive era during this time.

WWCG SPANISH TRANSLATION

Again, for those who don't know, I decided to make a Latin American Spanish translation of Where Winter Crows Go. Since Spanish is my mothertongue, I figured I could do it myself (not to mention it'd save me money) and just ask for a bit of help with testing it afterwards to my spanish-speaking friends and acquaintances.

While I started this translation process in April of this year, the anxiety of my move to Spain just made it increasingly difficult for me to concentrate. I really had to take a step back and tell myself to take it easy. Society often bombards us with how productive you've got to be 24/7 when that's just not realistic and, honestly, super unhealthy.

Therefore, I will continue with this translation once I'm settled in Spain and with the right headspace to do so. I really, REALLY want the translation to be out in 2026 but I'll give a more definitive date when I've made more significant progress.

KILLER TRAIT

This year, a little bit more than 2 months ago, Killer Trait had a major update in regards to several things: several new CGs, a new and very cool-looking UI and even a brand new chapter (Day 3)!! Unfortunately, this new update didn't have as much of a reach as I hoped it would have, but I'm still encouraged to release a new update (which will contain Day 4) sometime in 2026.

As mentioned in the 'Moving to Spain' section, I will first concentrate on getting settled in my new country. But then I definitely will move towards working more diligently on Day 4. Even if I'm not currently writing the script for it at this time, though, know that progress is still being made. The 3 new backgrounds that this chapter will have are currently in the making and I've also outlined a few ideas of how I want this chapter to go.

To be clear, Day 4 will be the last chapter of the Free Demo of Killer Trait. The next update after that will be the full-game, which I'm HOPING to release sometime in 2027. Can't say which month with certainty because, as you may know, delays in game development can always happen, and that's not even taking into account that I'm funding this project by myself and the help of a few very kind donators.

While I'm not exactly a "solo dev", in the sense that I don't do EVERYTHING by myself (since I commission artists, additional programmers for things I don't know how to do, and the like), I still AM a "solo dev" in the sense that I'm the only core member of Pri Karin games and, therefore, the biggest responsability of making sure everything in the game is working well, of releasing a project on time and of following through with my commitments and statements is up to me.

Of course, delays can happen due to certain assets not being finished on time, but it's important that I can assess the possibilities of that happening to try to plan accordingly. That way, the release dates that I give can be more accurate.

That's why, while I'm super, super grateful that a lot of you guys are excited about more updates and more concrete dates for releases, I ask you kindly that you be patient with me and understand that I'm doing the best I can 🙏

STEAM RELEASES?

Yes!! Now that I'll be moving to Spain, something that's very exciting to me is the possibility of releasing both Where Winter Crows Go and Killer Trait to Steam. Argentina's economy just didn't feel safe to me, so I thought I'd have better chances if I released my games from another country altogether.

HOWEVER, keep in mind that these things take time, so I can't give you a date of when this will happen. Just that it's something I will definitely do, down the line, and I'll let you know when this will happen so that you can wishlist the games, should you want to get them on Steam ❤️

OTHER PROJECTS

Outside of Killer Trait, the other project that I'm most interested in working on, right now, is one called MYSTIC CIPHER. You might have heard of it from some of my social media posts or perhaps you played my game Reynard, which is a prequel to this game.

Basically, this is a game where Carl, from Killer Trait, is the deuteragonist! You play as Fay, a private paranormal detective who gets hired whenever there are odd occurrencies happening in certain places. Unlike my other games, Mystic Cipher will be an RPG MAKER game. Making an RPG MAKER game has been a HUGE ambition and dream of mine ever since I started making games, so being able to do this fills me with a lot of excitement and passion.

Since Killer Trait is the project I'm focusing on the most, though, Mystic Cipher's progress is a whole lot slower. Right now, I only have a few core ideas for it and am mostly concentrating on some of the art being made (mainly the 2D sprites and some pixel art needed for the scenarios).

There are even more games that I have in the back of my mind that I'd love to get to, at some point, but right now I'm going to be focusing on Killer Trait and Mystic Cipher, or I'll just risk not only getting sidetracked but also overwhelmed and burned out.

CONCLUSION

TLDR, I'm moving to Spain! Which is why updates regarding my games may not be so frequent until I finally get settled there. But I'm doing my best and I appreciate you guys a whole lot for the support, patience and understanding!!

Hope you have a wonderful May ahead! ❤️
