I just played a battle against myself to get a feel for things. It was pretty self explanatory and seemed like it would be fun to play. Perhaps choose another color for the red balls, so they differentiate from the red/blue player concept. It took me a while to realize I could move the catapult, but didn't find a need for it.
Here's a playtest!
Fun little multiplayer game with clean art style and nice sounds & physics
This was fun! I especially liked the Sound Effects. It took me a while to figure out that I could move those blocks.
I think it would be unfair for me to rate this game cause it just returns a network error when I try playing :(
Makes me think of similar old flash games. :) I pesonally wouldn't do a multiplayer game for a jam, but I respect those who do. The art style was simple and clean, maybe the kings could have had something to set them apart from the blocks a bit more but that's nitpicking.
Some stuff needed exploration/just trying them out to figure out, so I think there could have been more visual communication. like it's not immediately obvious what the red balls do and how they differ from the basic ones.
I can't rate it because I don't have a second player... but... I think one of the rules was to not use any text that explains the game.
the text is only about how to connect to someone else which is essential to starting a game. There is no "in game" explanations
you can also just open another browser tab and have 2 players on your own machine to try dynamics (if you have no friends)
We played this as a 2-player, and it's great! I fully encourage folks, if possible, to find someone to play the game with before the voting ends. There's emergent gameplay we weren't expecting. I genuinely believe I'll be playing this with friends even once the jam's completely over.
I gave it a go with 2 separate windows, impressive that you made a multiplayer game! Simple, intuitive, I can see this being a few minutes of fun with a friend. If I had any :)
yes opening it in 2 tabs can allow you to test dynamics! thanks for the comment. I will give you a battle some time if we can get in sync?
Not sure if this is intentional but you can cheese and cheat a lot:
- steal the opponent's balls
- mess with their catapult
- grab balls mid air
- etc
the grab incoming missiles mid air thing is intentional, but messing with opponents catapalt is a bug. thankyou for commenting.
about messing around with the enemy catapult, I wasn't able to always do it but I did do it some times. I remember doing it immediately in the first level/arena.
I remember that the enemy already had placed a ball in their catapult, I'm not sure if they were clicking and dragging and I hijacked the control or if they were not clicking at all and I clicked first so I was able to control it.
Hope this helps you crush that bug :)
I loaded it up on my phone just to try it out, so it was fairly one sided. I think the physics are cool. I like that you can immediately knock over your wall, but realize you would probably want to build it back up/
pretty cool if you can get someone to play with! was fun though could use some more level variety. but well done for getting a multiplayer game working for a game jam!
Looks interesting on the surface but can't play because it requires multiplayer. I would have added an AI option for a game jam.
you can test the dynamics by opening 2 tabs on your browser side by side and switch between to testing firing, rebuilding, level progression etc. Let me know if you want to play vs me...
adding some AI might be a good move for a jam like this. also i gotta ask, why is a CICD pipeline necessary for a 2 week jam?
:) because we are software engineering students...
Once you have a template set up for one game, it's pretty simple to use that on all other projects. Very good for catching bugs if you have tests set up and automatically building for all your target platforms.
I feel like the technical aspect behind getting it all working is a great acomplishment but sadly i cannot rate the game properly as i couldn't properly play it since it seems to require online exclusively? The game itself also seems kinda simple but again im just judging through what i experienced. Kudos on the online but i feel it played against you in the context of a jam.
yes, needing another human to play against is a barrier, thanks for the comment.
