Cute lil game, short as others have said, but I found it very intuitive! The only part I wasn't 100% sure on was to go back to the ship once I got all the gears, and even then I was like 90% sure. And, like you commented on our game, this is a great attempt for a group that's new to game design, looks like you learned a lot, and keep it up! Can't wait to see your next project!
I was able to play the game at the temporary location, it seemed relatively straightforward, but a little too short! I enjoyed collecting the 5 gears, and was assuming there'd be a little more too it (unless I was missing something). I liked the 3d/2d art style
Here's a playtest
Hey, thank you so much for the feedback! It was really fun watching the playback. You aren't missing anything 😅 With us being complete noobies, and this being our first game, we learned a lot, but only enough for this basic prototype. We are working to develop it out with more story! All of the feedback here has definitely given us a better direction to go towards!
Hi guys! So... unfortunately, we didn't realize there was a grace period for patching bugs, and we deleted the game but couldn't upload the patch. 😭 (Stay in school, kids. Reading comprehension is key.) Lesson learned for next time! Thank you everyone for your time and feedback, and thank you @IndieGameClinic for a great first jam for us. The community you have fostered is lovely. We've learned a lot and will keep working at it! ♡
We have it uploaded for testing in this temporary location: https://444fern444.itch.io/fremandi-temporary
I really liked the 2D art and animations, although it wasn't super clear that the spaceship was crash landing. I think adding an explosion could communicate that more clearly. I think making a 3D game with 2D sprites is an interesting choice, but personally, I found the 2D art much more appealing than the 3D environment. The camera angle made it difficult to avoid the monster when it was behind you and led to some clipping through the terrain. I didn't also really understand what the goal was, I understood you needed to collect the spiked wheels, but I didn't know what to do with them once I'd picked them all up, so I ended up wandering around and eventually getting to the ending without really understanding what had triggered it. I think the game could also use some sfx for picking up the collectables or when being attacked by an enemy to provide some more feedback. Lastly, as other people have mentioned, the deaths and the ending scene are very abrupt and could use a smoother transition.
Thank you for playing and taking the time to give such thoughtful feedback!
i enjoyed the 2d/3d mix, and pace was very fluid, but a bit more drama on a adeath would help understand whats going on, seems like a glitch/reset on death.
That makes sense - thank you! We will add that post-game jam!
Very short game with a clear goal and a unique artstyle. It felt like there was a lot going on and a tad overwhelming and it ends very abruptly. Also I seemed to die randomly sometimes, think it was because the enemy was behind my camera in front of me and I ran into it not knowing it was there. I think the game could benefit from more interesting level design with more smaller challenges or maybe a way to counter the enemy
Oh, absolutely - we have levels planned, but didn't get there this game jam. We will definitely add more story, context, and thoughtful goal design in the final product. Thank you so much for your feedback! (Your game is beautiful, by the way!)
Music absolutely slaps, and I thought the perspective and the art style was super unique!
Thank you so much!!
Hooray! I flew away! 🛸
The graphics are cool, and the music is great!
It took me a while to figure out what to do - I was avoiding the spiky things because they looked like they would cause damage! 😂
The aspect ratio made me think this was a mobile game at first, but I guess it wouldn't work on a phone since you need to use the keyboard.
Thank you so much! It should work on a phone with swiping, so I will pass that issue on to Daniel. Perhaps we can add something post-jam to suggest the gears are safe and a goal to collect. Thank you for your feedback!
Ok, this is actually more my speed lol. The enemy is a bit phallic (maybe that says more about me) and i agree, it would be better longer.. (oh my)
But overall, like this a lot. Nice hand drawn look of everything and and although short and maybe repetitive, nice music. They work together. It has a casual/smooth feel to all of it , you could play this one handed on the toilet.
Could use with fixing up the terrain clipping into the camera, slightly adjust the camera angle... a few minor things maybe. Might even be better 2d since but the presentation is lovely.
Also being a filthy casual it probably took me longer than it should have to complete it -i didn't realise what to do to 'finish'.
Look, you aren't the only one! I have a picture of the monsters face in the comments below - he's inspired by a telescope fish. 🥲
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback and suggestions! We are hoping to create a collection of easy one-handed cozy, mindless games, and this is a... prototype of us figuring out how to put together what we all bring to the table. We do plan to adjust the camera angle and add some sort of collision boundary before the edge of the map. That's great feedback.
I am also a filthy casual, so the speed was so fast for me, but it was a piece of cake for the guys! You are in good company with me 😂 Thank you again!
The game seems to be rendering in portrait mode on Firefox. Because of that I tried to resize the window so that it matches a phone with devtools and this error kept happening every time I jumped (image below)
It was hard to understand what was going on, I guess I was avoiding a gray worm and picking up the "cogs". Then I went to the center of the map and the game ended (?) I wasn't sure.
I was vibing with the music :)
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! I will pass the error and issues to Daniel.
If you take the gears to the ship one by one, it repairs the ship incrementally, but if you collect them all and then get in the range of the ship, it skips to the last animation. Definitely something we will fix when we get together again to improve it!
Loved the art and the music! The little animations at the start and the end were very cute :)
Thank you!! I hope to put a few more in the final product, too!
I liked the atmosphere of the game and the music. The game was fine bugs' related. Good Job!
Good to hear! Thank you so much!
Nice job on the visuals mc looks like an alien version of cult of the lamb running from a gray penis creature, ending is a bit abrupt tho
We plan to build this out into a full game, so we will take this into consideration. And we will most definitely will rework that animation 😂 Thank you for playing and for your feedback!
I think I freed mandi!
Okay, so there's an interesting concept / design here. You've got essentially a survivors-like on an extra terrestrial planet. You've got a playground to explore speculative biology, ecosystems, etc.
I would raise the camera up a bit higher - 30-40 degree pitch.
Good luck!
Thank you so much for your feedback! The camera angle note is pretty consistent. We will definitely play around with that. We also have a lot planned for exploration that didn’t make it into the game jam submission!
Its a interesting game that needs some polishing, for me the camera angle was bit hard to adapt
extra: What is that thing chasing me LOL is it what i think it is??
You’re thinking telescope fish, aren’t you? 😂 I am hoping once we add the planned interaction with him, it will be less… phallic. Perhaps we need to redo the animation… Thank you so much for your feedback!
very unique design and camera perspective. Love the audio also. it was also obvious what to do from the start, maybe make the ending object stand out a bit more.
thank you! That’s a great idea - we can definitely add a flashing animation behind the spaceship once it’s ready to be upgraded.
I liked the soundtrack, I couldn't find what to do once you get all the cogs
Thank you! Tauri is a wizard with sound.
We were hoping to have the game logic fleshed out a little more by the deadline, but this is as far as we got. Our first time using Unity. In the final product, the gears will go to the ship for repair!
