pretty sure i was missing something really obvious here, i was able to get the blue and green shapes fine, but the yellow one i couldnt pick up for some reason? really cool little environment though, loved how the paintings changed as you went through! good stuff :)

Developer

There is indeed a reason for that. Some toys out there are not like the others.

Thanks for noticing! We’ve put a lot of love into those little bits.

I really like the 2d and 3d art, the level design and the use of lights. Together with sound it gives good tension. The jumpscares does not fit at all imo. I think it's a scenario for pure psychological horror. The feedback for the findings could be just a "thrill sound" which builds more tension instead of a jumpscare one.

Overall good experience.

Developer

Thank you, that’s a good point.

We’re considering removing jumpscares altogether, but there’s a trade-off. We’d have to put more effort into polishing the transitions between horror phases. Every proper way to do it is just a tad too expensive for us time-wise right now. But maybe straight-up removing the 2D jumpscares will do the trick.

Decisions, decisions...

Appreciate the feedback! Love this community.

spoiler: is there supposed to be anything after opening the door and walking into the light? my game just closed

Developer

Spoiler: nope, that’s the ending — the game closes itself on purpose.

I got this popup when I tried to download the game

Yep, we’re still in the review queue. A recently created page and a first published project — apparently that’s one of the most common reasons for manual moderation.

We can’t even post in the community hub right now. Sorry for the inconvenience — unfortunately, there’s not much we can do about it at the moment.

Alright I played thru it!

I really like how the artwork changes while you play the game,   the environmental design is great

I got the sense that the   people on the wall and the   encroachment of  critters   had something to do with the players deteriorating conditions

I think there is a case   to be made for   keeping the jumpscares if they are to represent intrusive thoughts/memories   that  appear when interacting with a given memory object.    They are more startling to the player than they are scary.   You could look at       Spooky's  jumpscare mansion   for how jumpscares are    interwoven with moments of dread (though there the jumpscares are played off as more silly)

There's a spot in the game where you can get softlocked by the bed

Love to see a house centipede, tho they aren't supposed to be scary, they actually eat the roaches

Developer

Thank you so much!

Really glad you followed the narrative. That was exactly our line of thought.

There are probably more immersive ways to portray a traumatized child’s POV and the feeling of encroaching dread without expensive animations and stuff. Interactions with frightening objects followed by jumpscares — that was the decision at the time. Judging by the feedback, it didn’t land quite as intended, which is fair.

Yeah, we’re well aware of “The Bed Trap”. It’s already fixed, but we have to wait til the end of the voting period to upload the update.

Not just a house centipede — a GIANT house centipede! ;)

Amazing feedback, thanks. Much love!

Very cool game, I think you captured a great mood here! I think the game was pretty quiet, there might be some room to do more with sound? To me, the jumpscares were not necessary, I think after the first one I kind of expected them at the same beats, so they almost relieved tension rather than built it for me. I did like the rat one in the chest, I thought there might be an actual rat but then it turned out to be a toy, which I thought was pretty on theme. It was unsettling how quickly the camera moved when I was zooming in or climbing on something, so great job with that. Overall great concept, and I definitely felt the slow building tension, the changes in the room throughout the game had me feeling more and more like I wanted to leave!

Developer

Well, thank you — really glad to hear that!

There’s definitely a lot of wiggle room for SFX, like sneaky localized sounds and stuff. It was actually pretty high on our nice-to-have list. And yeah, there’s a thin line between eeriness and emptiness. Sound really is 90% of horror.

Thanks for the feedback!

There's some really cool stuff here! I liked being "on the table", and the bouncy movement there made me think a little bit of when you're a kid and you "walk with your fingers" and then imagine your hand is a little person. Art and sound mood are genuinely great.

I had to cut my playthrough a little bit short because it's possible to fall off the foot of the bed and get stuck behind a chair, and I didn't want to replay the section before that.

I thought you had some neat ideas about making objects noticeable in a way which fit the world, e.g. the painty handprints, glowing building blocks etc. Didn't really appreciate the jumpscares as to me it feels like the lowest form of horror...  They sort of made me not really invested in continuing because it felt like I was being punished for what should've been "a-ha" moments. Feels a little bit poor taste to use it in a game where the theming suggests child neglect etc... this is Roald Dahl kind of territory but I think the game would've been more interesting if had kept that creepy theming without pulling it over into full jumpscare territory (which to me suggests a "for kids" horror game like FNAF rather than something more mature).

Developer

Thanks a ton! Pretty valuable feedback, really appreciate it.

Glad to hear the “on the table” part hit the spot — we were worried about that one.

Yeah, we’re aware of the “bed trap” issue and are currently working on a fix, along with some general polishing here and there. Sorry to hear it hurt your experience.

As for the jumpscares — fair point. There’s more than one way to skin a cat. In hindsight, the feeling of encroaching horror from the past could have been introduced in a much subtler way. Oh well — a decision was made, and it’s water under the bridge now.

Thanks again! Lots of kind words and useful pointers in there.
