Nice short game. One suggestion from my side would be to show the category of the object when you throw it into the bin, or at least show it when you got it wrong. I might have misinterpreted some items and/or the category of some items, and that additional feedback would make it more easy to improve for the next run(s).
Thank you for the feedback! I hadn't thought of that, but it's a great idea. Currently we're considering a few changes that will hopefully make the categories more clear, but I think this would still be a good addition on top of that :)
Reminds me of doing bin runs on Motor Town!
I had a couple of issues though, one was that the UI doesn't scale to screen size so most of the important information was cut off for me. The other was that it wasn't super clear what the colors were sometimes since the color overlay would mix with the item's color and it could sometimes be difficult to see if an object was classed as yellow or green. You could do a solid color overlay or a little circle which appears next to each object with it's color. Oh and I did find the AOE pickup upgrade hard to use, I wasn't sure why it would activate sometimes and not others.
I think with a few different town layouts this would be a well rounded little game!
Thank you for the feedback!
What a great concept! Now that I think about it, garbage men jumping off the truck trying to empty bins as quick as possible are playing a "minigame" of sorts. Music is awesome as well.
I think this game could really shine given some UI explanations (outside of the scope of this jam) and additional mechanics (trash compacting?).
I did not understand the different types of trash mechanic, and the level itself seemed slow (I felt myself waiting around for the truck to catch up), but given a few tunings I could totally see this making a solid Steam game.
Thank you for playing! Appreciate your kind words :)
Jay did a great job with the music. For a game the, the music was professionally made. The whole game was a ton of fun with a very simple design. I liked that the trash were color coded when you got close so that you can tell what each trash bag was.
Thank you!! Glad you liked it :D
This was great! I immediately felt like I knew what to do, with the exception of needing specific types of trash, that took a few moments for me to understand. I also didn't understand I had to click on the upgrade screen, I thought it was automatic.
I loved a lot about this, the music choice was perfect. I think I would have opted for the sound of a timer tick, instead of the dark fade for indicating the level was almost over.
This was fun, though! It scratched some sort of itch I didn't know I had. I want to get ALL the trash!
Thank you for playing! I'm glad you liked the music, I experimented with a few styles before landing on this one, good to hear it fits well :)
I loved the core concept of this game, it almost instantly clicked for me. I found the deeper rules kind of confusing, but mostly from a thematic standpoint. It took me a long time to even notice the widget in the lower left. Perhaps you could prompt each day with the route rules? And maybe make the trash a bit more orthogonal (trash bags are always trash, rather than some being yellow, some being red, etc). Some of the icons on the upgrade screen weren't exactly clear in terms of what they would do, especially the hand and the eyeball.
I only noticed I could throw something when someone pointed it out to me. Anywho, I think the general setting has lots of potential, especially for a friendslop game. It could improve by being a little more explicit and video game-y about the different elements it's playing with
Here's a playtest
Thanks again for playing!
Really nice concept, and looks nice too.
But overall, very lovely :)
Thank you for this constructive message! I will fix those after the jam, you are completely right! Great feedback and I'm happy, that you like it :)
What can I say. I caught myself playing till the end :D I just love progression, it triggers my dopamin receptors. The games feel was quiet nice. Music, SFX and movement. I insanely liked the "streak mechanic" making you faster when collecting the right stuff. I did not play the early versions and have to say It made sense to understand what trash needs to be picked up when with the color coding. Good job!Overall I enjoyed it.
Thank you for playing and for your kind words!! Glad you enjoyed it 😁
Last night uploaded to a new version with small; bugfix, UX and UI changes so it should be more clear with garbage color and a bit easier difficulty. Hope you like it!
This was difficult and fun! I think the perspective and the mouse controls made it more difficult for me. I was confused with the controls in the first playthrough, but immediately said "Ohhh" when the game started.
I didn't understand how to tell the difference in the trash types until the second level, but that wasn't a deterrent for me. Also, I had an issue in the first level where a black screen popped up towards the end of the level. I couldn't duplicate it for a screenshot, but wanted to pass on the info just in case!
Love the style for this type of game. Great job!
Interesting, we'll have to look into that. Thank you for playing!
I really enjoyed this! The music + walk speed going up as you progress is satisfying, and gives a nice, "goofy" feel!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed :). I were thinking to change the graphic shader with each scored trash to more toon-type but it was just to much to do for the gamejam but I still have that shader waiting!
I had such a fun time playing! Really fun and intuitive idea.
The run felt a little bit loose and it took my a little bit of trial and error to understand the differences between different rubbish types but many other notes!
Thank you! <3
Fun game! I liked the look of the little town, and the music was working for me.
Very challenging, though. Usually I don't even make it to 1 star.
I had some trouble picking things up. Like, standing in front of an item - sometimes it would highlight, and sometimes it wouldn't. 🤷♂️
I saw some other comments mentioned throwing the trash? I guess I didn't figure out how to throw, I was just walking everything into the bin.
After the final round, is there a way to play again without reloading the browser window? (I reloaded the browser window. LOL)
Thank you!! You can throw trash by holding down left click. At one point we had planned on adding a tutorial popup to make that more clear, but it sorta fell through the cracks, as well as adding a way to restart hahaha
I prop walked on a book. I see all now. (it's not a bug, it's a feature)
Click to hold a prop where you are dragging it and walk into it/ontop of it holding w.
Maybe one day we will have the robots to pick up the bin
In terms of gamefeel, a sprint option would be nice and it would be humorous to have the trash bags burst open shooting physics objects everywhere
It wasn't clear if the section with the stars was for upgrades or for rating your performance.
Fixed already ^^ yeah, I personally love those kind of bugs. You got the sneak peak from the level creation and assets selected to "use-maybe", lucky you!
I would love to add this physic to the garbage with the character, maybe after the jam :). This version got updated twice I hope upgrades are now more clear to pick after the run and the section was created for both of those things - score and upgrades. I were hoping to have a 3rd screen - pre-run with more info and upgrades and then post-run with scores and so but it end with one with all.
Neat concept, had fun for a few mins trying to throw stuff in. A controls tutorial would have been helpful. Some of the objects seemed to be physics enabled and caused movement issues. I couldn't really tell when I could or couldn't throw stuff, seemed like there was an invisible cooldown or something.
Hey :) thanks for the feedback! Those objects, with created a movement issues are the heavier garbage. I'm curious about the invisible cooldown you are talking about - maybe this was the feel with the heavy objects when they travel to the throw stance from the dragging one? After this jam I will make some changes to this be more clear to understand and have a fun with.
Is there a button I can press to start the game after getting to the sliders? There's just 3 sliders (mouse, sfx, and music) that appear and mashing keys didnt do anything
Sorry about that! There's an arrow in the bottom right corner of the screen that starts the game :)
Can you enable the fullscreen option on the gamepage? It doesn't appear for me
Gotcha, I'll see what I can do
I had Marcin make some changes to the page. Can you check to see if it's sized properly now?
It runs now, thanks
