You can really feel your playtesting experience in this design! You definitely know what makes a faction work in the Root ecosystem and how to make it fun to play both with and against. Congrats! The nomad quests are a super smart, fresh, and original engine. I look forward to giving it a spin once I'm on TTS.
One quick question: what are the bulwarks supposed to be thematically, especially now that they can be activated? I might just be missing something because I didn't actually know the word at first, so I originally thought they were the remnants of the lost bastion.
Thx! Yes the couple of tests i did realy steered me in certain directions and there were some parts that needed changing. If you look at the discord thread in woodland warriors you can see the progression if you are interested.
Bulwarks are meant to be quick fortifications that can also be broken down easely. Like what the romans did, just dig a ditch and erect a wooden wall. Maybe "active bulwark" is the wrong term to use, so no need to get hung up on that specific part. Think of it as one side is under construction and in evening it gets finished
Them having to do with ruins are so cool, and your mechanics are really easy to follow along with. I especially like the idea of you getting your bulwark abilities through rule, I think it'll lead to some fun faction interactions :P
I really like this faction! The Nomad Quests are such a unique way to use the regular deck of cards in a new way. I assume that the effects stack (i.e. if I had 3 Craftable cards in the Quests and I placed a bulwark, I score 3 points and discard all 3)?
The Fruition abilities are also a clever way to change how the faction performs when they've achieved their "goal". It's very non-intrusive to the layout of the board but still gives good flavour. Nicely done!
Just curious what the difference is between active vs. inactive bulwarks? It seems like you build inactive bulwarks in Daylight and activate them that Evening. The only thing I could guess is that inactive bulwarks don't increase the warrior count for Wander, but wasn't sure if there was anything else? Is there something else that would inactivate a bulwark?
Also, when you Endeavor, I assume you need to discard at least one card? Or can I "discard" my empty hand to take 2 extra actions?
It was intended that you can only complete one quest per action. I made it so inactive bulwarks are build first and then activate later so you cannot build a bulwark, then build another builwark and remove the one you just build.
When you endeavor, you can discard your empty hand. Like using partisans or provoking as frogs
Ah, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the clarifications!
