Just got this, won't let me do anything, won't let me edit scenes or even do anything with the hands. Looked up how to do it and it didn't even work :/

Maybe you can be more specific about what you are trying to do, and what doesn't work.  I suggest you start by opening Virt-a-Mate, then clicking the vamX button and running through the main tutorial, then VR tutorials.  When vamX opens in the Scene menu (open by default) click HELP -> Main Tutorial (then after that run the VR tutorial if you are using it in VR).  You should use controllers not virtual hands in my opinion.  It was designed for VR controllers if you are in VR.
