Hello, Congratulations on being one of the top 3 in the writing jam! Please also send an e-mail to customers@onepagerules.com so that we can send you your prize models! In the subject line please let us know that this was a top 3 placement!
Hey, I'm going to narrate some of the entries from this jam and put them on YouTube, would it be alright if I did yours? I'd credit you of course. And congrats on second place!
The last line is a little bit on the nose but I kind of like it. I think this is the solid start of a story you could easily expand on. Awesome work!
An easy read in the best way. The concept is fantastic, I love the exploration of prophecy vs free will. It makes you wonder how many other Saurians might have experienced the same thing, but are just flying by the seat of their pants.
The OSHS report for this one must be wild. All kidding aside, this was great and mysterious. Too mysterious perhaps? Or not mysterious enough? It's impossible to say. What I know is that I had a great time.
I felt so sad for Tza-Quol. It must have been so terrifying and embarrassing to let his people down....and without an explanation is even worse! On the other hand, I chuckled a little, because somehow there's humor to it that I can't put my finger on. Thanks for the entertaining read! ☺️
abstract pieces can get slippery fast, but this one stays readable. the prose has a good measured pace, and the whole thing carries its strangeness well. great use of the theme. great work.
Cons first: the way you're using italicized prophecy, you probably could've saved lots of wordage by shortcutting the inconsequential stuff like repeating that he touched something right after explaing that he touched something in prophecy- skipping straight to describing how it felt, right or wrong, works. There's a few of those, but also, your story is a perfect example of how to build a story around a theme without stating out right. Even though you did in the end😅 That said, story was freaking great. Probably one of my favorite in jam history as far as use of theme goes.
Thanks. That is a fair read.
The contrast was meant to show the prophecy losing authority in real time, but some of the repetitions are probably over-explaining the same mechanism. The seal moment especially could be cut tighter
Glad the theme still landed. I wanted the impossible to be less about a failed prediction and more about a deterministic culture encountering an unwritten event.
And thank you. That last compliment means a lot. I’ll keep the structure, but sharpen the italic sections in revision.
really enjoyed this one, great grounds for fleshing out a much larger story I think -nice!
Maybe this is out of left field, but it's like the Dragon Scroll in Kung Fu Panda. There is no secret ingredient- and for the Saurians, that must be terrifying. Perhaps it's time to learn to live with uncertainty?
This was such a good read!
Really cool world-building, and the concept of impossible here is so clever. Reminds me of dr strange meeting thanos for the first time. Someone who's seen every possible future suddenly facing the one thing they never prepared for.
Good Job!
Really unique concept and atmosphere. The ending was incredibly strong, and the idea of a prophecy-based civilization facing the unknown was executed beautifully.
