An introspective on the Scourge? It's a very bold choice that I think you pull off really well! A lot of mood in this story with a very punchy ending. Great work!

I like how alien you've made Scourge feel while simultaneously making us aware of how alien daemons view us. The ending, wishing they could but being unable to share their epiphany with the one being it would make a difference to, is poignant for such a short story.

i liked the character angle here. scourge is not really beaten by strategy alone, but by finally having to sit with a feeling his whole existence has been built to avoid. the prose explains that turn a little more directly than i prefer, but the idea of a war daemon meeting acceptance at the end is a strong one. lovely work.

thanks for the kind words! ya going with the theme i wanted scourge to feel something seemingly impossible to his kind, but still believable within the worlds lore.

A nice little philosophical piece, I appreciate those :)

Always love a good piece of character work. It’s impressive how much you were able to convey in such a short story.

Had a few grammatical errors, but nothing egregious. Definitely one of my favorite reads so far.

I’m on record saying I haven’t encountered a spectacular villain thus far this Jam. I’ll amend that to say spectacular antagonist (not that it’s a bad thing; it’s realistic to have faceless or mundane antagonists). But Scourge definitely gets extra points for the inner monologue.

aw thanks for those kind words! My favorite moments in grimdark was always how characters chose to act in their final moments, so i wanted my story to be about a final moment. then i had the idea of a demon getting super excited about his ants killing each other and it made me laugh. Built the rest of the story up from there
