First thing I really like the crystal design. Looks reall clean to me, with the animation, glow etc. I also like the overall look of the game, enemies look nice and even tho the turrets are minimalistic I liked their look.

In terms of game design, merging towers if they are close together was satisfying (bigger turret = bigger fun). Not chosing which tower you get  next I liked the idea, makes it more simple for me who isn't really a tower defense player.

And for the sound design I the music and sound effects, especially the keys they felt just right.

I survived with exactly one live, couldn't kill even one of the guys in the last wave, my tower placement was really horrible xD

Good job on this one, would have loved some options to upgrade the towers (or did not find the option...)

Developer

There was a way to upgrade the towers by merging them. You place two towers of the same type next to each other, click one, then the other, and they merge into a stronger version. However, I did no effort whatsoever to explain this mechanic (Sorry about that!).

Thank you for playing!

Very nice! It’s been a while since I’ve played a TD.

Feedback and critique:

  • Graphics: Well done. I’m assuming that you made your own (taking a look at your page, it appears that you create assets anyway, and I think this was a great use of those assets!). No notes on this: very well done.
  • Music and Sound: Also well done. I also enjoyed this aspect of the game, it was very well polished. The only issue I have is that there is no volume control here - it would have been nice to see that, but other than that, this was very well done.
  • Gameplay: Great! I picked it up fairly quick, everything seemed to be smooth and had no bugs.
  • UI/UX: This is where I’m gonna ding ya. The game throws the player into the deep end and says “Swim” without giving them any idea of how. While the game is easy to pick up, I was stumbling around for the first few minutes trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. This was partially addressed by the way you forced players to place a defensive node right off the bat, but I think more hand holding would have been warranted here. It also would have been nice to pause, or to have an explanation addressing elements of the UI. I think this is a major polish issue.

Overall: That said, the overall experience was pleasant, and once I figured out how things work, the gameplay became rather enjoyable. I just wish the game could have kept going - I reached the end, was handed my score, and cried because there was no more. The game could have been enhanced by taking the user experience into account - better onboarding, a menu system, tool tips, etc. But this was very well done for one week: A very strong entry.

Thank you so much for your thorough input!
Especially games without volume controls always tick me off (It's a shame I didn't add them as I already had all the SFX separated into different audio groups).

I'll take your feedback into account and will update the game after the game jam ends.

Thank you!
