This is such a cool game!!! im really into the colour switching mechanic it just felt slightly weird to have to click twice to switch to a specific colour sometimes, but i could tell you thought about that with some of the later encounters having the pattern of double clicking for every enemy. I do still think it would be nicer if you could pick exactly what colour you wanted though, maybe number keys? or an inventory wheel kinda thing? Overall though i loved the core loop and the music!!
Thank you so much.
I'm glad you took the time to notice that the colour order got gradually harder.
I'm going to keep working on it and change and add a lot of things, but this was more of a proof of concept kind of thing, keeping the scope down so I could have some sort of playable game finished in time.
I'll be addressing the colour swap controls to switch to next or previous. I also want to add multiple levels, bosses, etc.
I'm thinking I might focus more on the combat, with the streak system probably moving to more of a background feature.
Appreciate the feedback and the follow.
im excited to see where it goes! im sad that the streak system will be moving to more of a background feature because i personally really like the reward of getting a higher score from playing with precision. But i ultimately trust your judgement :)
The streak system won't be changing all that much, as I think some people will like the competitive element, especially once a leaderboard is added.
I just think the game would be better overall if the main focus was on the combat itself, so it appeals to people that just want to have a good time and who aren't necessarily bothered about scores.
This is going off the other comments I got on here, as the scoring system apparently missed the mark with some people. Although one person basically said they knew how the game should be played, but played it wrong anyway, so I'm not really sure what to make of that. 😂
The game is really good. The music sounds great. It would be better if there were more variety of enemies and a bigger punishment if you shoot with the wrong color because sometimes it's better to just spam with one color then switch them and shoot. Overall, it's a good game.
Thank you for playing, and for your feedback.
I wanted to add more, including a variety of enemies and attacks, plus many other ideas, but unfortunately this is all I could get done with the time I had.
I'm going to continue working on the game, so I'll hopefully be able to add everything I wanted to and more over time, including better level structure, multiple levels and boss fights.
Feel free to follow me if you're interested to see how things go with this project, and to see other projects I work on.
Alright! Can’t wait to see the future of this game!
Pretty solid experience. Everything works as it should. Although I found the main gimmick really click with me. I found myself kinda just sidestepping it, only switching colour when absolutely necessary and just dodging/hiding from orbs I didn't feel like shooting down frantically. Maybe this is the intended solution but I found myself unsatisfyied feeling like I avoided the point of the game. Now, I can't really complaing too much about this because this is a pretty fundamental game design issue and solving it seems like quite the project in itself. So I get why you just stuck with it and finished the project as it was. Not every idea needs to strike gold, obviously. But it was still a solid experience that did what it aimed to do. So I don't fault it for that.
The main focus of the game is to get the highest score you can, rather than just surviving, which would have worked out better if I'd had time to add a leaderboard, but unfortunately I ran out of time.
I'm going to keep working on it, and try to add a proper structure with more enemy types, multiple levels and boss battles.
Thanks for your feedback, it's always valuable whether positive, negative, or a bit of both.
