This was a fun little game.  Combat felt good with some nice juicy feedback on each hit.  I like that you included the low-quality voice over and the voice acting was good and it's clear a lot of effort went into the script and overall production.  Impressive that you were able to do so much in just two weeks.

It definitely reminded me of Double Dragon and Streets of Rage.  Those barrels were really hard to dodge and I definitely got stunlocked at times thinking I could just side-step them..!

Also love the inclusion of the Konami code - that was the first thing I tried!  Hilarious :D

Thank you so much! We’re so proud of our muffin game and so happy you used the super secret code!

Yessss! Thanks for making this game. I'm happy to see a brawler that took inspiration from Double Dragon. Great attack system (I love that the punch changes up to knees) and jump attacks, attacking lanes, etc. The grab traps were a great addition. I found that I got stuck a few times on the top lane against the boss. Other than that, really smooth game play and great NES graphics.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! The button-mashing grab traps were fun to add, taking direct inspiration from TMNT :)

Really funny game lol, I love the presentation and the idea of taking 'Do you know the muffin man' to its limit. Kino game honestly

I hope nobody penalizes you for the voice acting, I think the processing you did sounded a lot like Dirty Harry on NES you really nailed that! Maybe some of the parallax in the beginning would be tough but like I think the rest could be done for sure.

I'm haven't really played a lot of Beat em' up games so I'm not really sure if I know what to say about the gameplay. My only exposure is River City Ransom and the combat felt about par. I kinda felt like I was just mashing and everything came out fine. Also it seems like... some of the enemies just wouldn't attack you? Like if you just stood still they'd surround you and do nothing. The little pie guys in particular

Muffin man remix goes hard🤘

I thought the boss fight was solid, with the barrels

Overall just a great entry!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! Rebalancing some of the enemies along with clearer attack animations is something we'd be interesting in implementing if we pursue this idea further beyond some small post-jam fixes.

So happy with how fire the tracks came out. The boss theme variant is my fav. Shout out to our composer Kate for crushing it!

Loved the voice acting. I feel it's definitely in the spirit of an NES game, even if it wouldn't technically be possible. Very much enjoyed. Jumping kick spamming gave me TMNT2 flashbacks.

What an incredible experience—I loved every last bite of this one. 5/5. Thanks for making and sharing your game!

Really loved this one! When I realised what the game actually was, I was howling xD. I found that jump cancelling with the downward kick was really powerful if you plink jump then attack, but that didn't detract from how much fun I had with the game. Fantastic job with this one!

Developer

Thank you so much! So happy to bring smiles with this game!

I like how the main character looks like a jojo character, i like beat em ups in general so i had fun with this and managed to beat it, now the game doesn't look very nes, but liked the effort of putting voice acting but i'm not sure if that is nes accurate either, nonetheless i had fun "beating em up" (don't mind the pun)

if you have you some free time maybe check out my game, i'd love to hear your feedback

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! We definitely had more voice acting than some NES titles' occasional "cowabunga," but we had so much fun recording and digitizing the speech.

yeah the voice acting isn't bad ofc it was funny to hear them i only thought "they weren't possible on the actual nes", but good job nevertheless :)

I wouldn't know, but if you like men, this game is probably 10 times better for you. Love the voice acting

Thank you! :)

Intro sequence was great. Voice acting was phenomenal. Beat em up gameplay felt like a classic NES title. A short but SWEET experience!

Wow this was an amazing beat em up also it's cool you got voice acting in it too. Love the theming of it with the enemies all being bake goods. Also what's bro work out routine he is jacked.

Developer

Thank you! Workout routine: 20 minutes at 400 degrees F

I really enjoyed playing the game. You can feel the nostalgia from the old beat them alls.  The story gets you kind of intrigued also, so very good job, congratulations :)

I am a huge fan of beat-’em-ups, and I would of spent many many hours on this one back in the day. Just to find out more about these characters and learn how the tale unfolds while smashing heads.

The sound was fantastic and I couldn’t get enough of the dialogue. It was a bit quiet, and I checked my sound. I had to turn speakers up to high to hear the lines. The music was fitting, energetic, and well composed.

I think it looks stellar, but I do agree with another comment about how it would of needed a bit of sprite flicker, I just don’t know how much. Over all didn’t take me out of the NES feel though

My tried and true strategy of most beat-‘em-ups was not only present here in the attack layout, but also felt OP. This wasn’t bad per-say. I tore through weaker enemies like butter, doing drop attacks and stopping my cheese to fight when it felt most cinematic (btw v cinematic game I LOVED the bridge). When I got to the final boss it had me standing toe to toe with them in a “Huh, I’ve broken a sweat.” kind of way. So I think the balance is pretty good.

All and all left me wanting more! I played twice, fantastic game.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! So happy that we captured some of that nostalgic beat-em-up feel! Adjusting the volume of some of those voice lines is definitely on our post-jam list. Our art style was definitely more than pushing NES limitations, but our art team had so much fun making these sprites. We appreciate you doing your Drury duty.

The screen shake at the end of the combo is super satisfying, very well made game. The projectiles are genuinely difficult to deal with near the end to, fun game all around.

We are all... the muffin man. It felt just like the classic double dragon beat-em-ups! Great job with this one and it gave me a chuckle!

This game is very good, so good that I don’t think it would even run on the NES. It has some very detailed effects and sprites for a NES game, and also the game glitched and I can’t hit or interact with the enemies.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! Sorry that you experienced such a rough glitch. That's definitely one we'll be trying to find and patch post-jam.

i like the unique twist on the werewolf thing! THe gameplay, nes feel and visuals are nailed perfectly! I love it!

Thank you!
