It's good but yknow I think it's a lil gimmicky................................................heh...

No fr tho this is such an awesome game. Beautiful presentation. The art is gorgeous and polished (I love you got the squish sprites on the character), and the mechanic is unique and engaging.

I also wish I downloaded the desktop version sooner cos man a game like this GOTTA go fast. It's the kind of game you wanna get really good at, satisfying and unique movement.

I will say the dive mechanic did not cooperate with my brain often. It's tricky, I think the way you use it to swing spiderman style is very satisfying but there are also times where I'm expecting it to snap you towards the yoyo.

Also the ability to roll on it that's just DELIGHTFUL. Probably my fav game this jam.

Stunning graphics! Wow. In terms of game play... I found the yo-yo mechanism counterintuitive because the character stops in mid air when the yo-yo is deployed. Also, this seems to borrow a bit from Super Mario 3 in terms of platforms, slopes, cannon ball projectiles -- but sliding down a slope into an enemy and jumping on a ball both killed me (was unexpected based on Mario play). And then in terms of polish... everything looks so professional -- except the "Mouse Go Roll!" banner on the main menu could use some love.  But that is extreme nit picking. This is overall an amazing entry. Congrats!

This game is superb. Really like all the movement tech going on here and the vibes are spot on. I did not get to the end since I started playing this before having to get ready for work but I will be back later to get to beat  it. I think the air deceleration could have been a lot faster though since it felt like the character just kept going when I released the dpad. It's not stopping me from liking the game by any means, but it does feel jarring given how good the rest of the movement feels.

Developer

Thanks for trying it out! And that's correct, the only way to slow down midair is to hold left/right, there's no deceleration otherwise. It's similar to how the mario games work. Throwing the yoyo stops all your momentum though, so you can use it to position yourself for precise jumps!

I'm a big fan of agility in games and high skill ceilings, so this hits the spot for me gameplay-wise. Beyond that, the game is gorgeous and has much charm. Love !

I wanted to love this based on the art style, animations and audio alone, but I struggled with precision movement using the basic player controller (I think this might have been due to how the air control was handled, but I'm not sure) and found the trick moves hard to successfully pull off—the levels required more precision with these moves than I was able to give them. I'll acknowledge that this is 100% a skill issue, but I'd also love to come and try this again if you were to bring a little more accessibility to the player controller and moves. Thanks for making and sharing!

Developer

It's certainly can be an unforgiving game, and the movement can tough to grasp, but it's pretty rewarding when you figure it out.
I don't expect it to be worth it to everyone though, but thanks again for giving it a fair shot!

Wearing its inspirations on its sleeve, but I love Kirby's Adventure so that's a plus to me!

Audio sounds just right and the art is adorable. I did get a little frustrated trying to grasp the mechanics. The level design asks for verticality frequently but the player can't really access much vertical movement without landing on the yoyo, which itself requires at least two actions first (jumping in the air, then throwing out the yoyo to land on it). The physics feel good but I would have liked an easier way to ride the yoyo or some other means of moving vertically, like swinging around the yoyo like it's a pivot point mid-air.

I'm mostly complaining to complain. What a cute little game!!

Really beautiful graphics, and I liked the Kirby like feel, but with a modern feel.

I eventually managed to beat each of the 4 levels, although definitely not with a single same credits (it took me around 3 hours ;) ).

My expectations for the game were high and the game was ever better than I expected. The game is pretty much a NES game, it looks great, it sounds great, it controls great. I love all the things you can do with the yo-yo, and I also love that you're not forced to to be able to beat the provided levels. The levels are excellent, I love the bonus rooms (especially the hidden one in the last part of the last level, as the hearts from this one are welcome) and the alternative path of the last level and the length of the levels and overall difficulty are perfect for the jam.

I thought the invincibility when you get hit could last slightly longer.

Thanks for sharing!

This project was incredibly well done, NES feel all the way. Great work :)

Okay so this is exactly the game the jam implies. Love the ideas here with the game play and everything just fits perfectly (dammit! lol)

You mastered the NES art and music style. For a gamejam the game is polished with lot of content. Great Job.

LOVE the soundtrack on this one!! I also love the skill expression that's possible, it was tricky at first but it felt so satisfying to finally get the hang of the sliding jump and using the yoyo as a traversal mechanic. Fantastic work!!

Most NES game ever.

It's a super duper cool game! no joke i liked the movement, and for some reason i felt like it had some speedrunning  moveset, like this game could be fun to speedrun due to the controls, the graphics looked very nes like and looked very beautiful, i liked some of the details like the "sprites tearing" (idk if that's the correct word) on the edges on the screen, the music was simple but it did the job well, other than that a very solid game and pretty polished too!

maybe guys if you had some spare time you can check out my game, i'd like to hear y'all feedback on it ;)

I'm glad you noticed that detail! I had also implemented a scanline limit at one point, but it didn't look as nice as I'd like.
This is certainly a barely disguised speedrunning game

Submitted

i also have the scanline limit in my game, but it's rare to happen but it's there lol, but yeah the movement in this game def goes brrrrrr

Saw a screenshot of this one in the discord and knew I wanted to try it out. I love wonderful pixel art and all the cool movement options the player has. It was a little too hard for me but I still loved what I played. Great game!

Probably one of the best games on the jam. It breathes, bleeds, cries, sweats kirby's adventure. Everything here is perfect!

Very nice, but I think it was too harsh right at the beginning.

THAT WAS SOOO GOOD but i am soooo bad at the superjump combo :)

i spent the whole time playing just trying to get the knack of it consistently, and didn't do so great haha. SUPER satisfying when you can speedrun, and really funny when i accidentally slingshot straight off to my death :P I never quite got the timing down perfectly.

but The movement mechanic overall was super buttery smooth and fun!! And a lovely kirby inspired atmosphere you really nailed it both aesthetically and NES-styled.
