Seriously brilliant. It misses out on NES feel, but then it more than makes up for it by how it plays so wonderfully with a surprisingly rich loop and great audios/visuals to match. I could see this being a very successful game if you expanded on these concepts. Thanks for making and sharing your game!
I am completely unsure how to rate this. Utterly blown away by what y'all made here. This is a WHOLE strategy game and I just passed half an hour exclusively playing for fun, not for scoring. Made it halfway through summer. There were some days where I couldn't do anything substantial because I needed an axe and didn't pull one, and couldn't buy seeds because I had no money. It eventually worked out (and learning I could use crops to gain energy that day or in the future certainly helped)!
As has already been said, can't really give this too many points on NES feel. What's here is incredibly polished but neither the audio nor graphics seem plausible for the NES. Don't let that put this game down though because like... it's a full game. Made in around 2 weeks. Still blown away by how complete this is! I'll probably bookmark it and share with some friends when the jam is over. This is exactly my kind of game LOL
Your game looks beautiful! But I couldn't figure out what was going on or what I was supposed to be doing. I think it would benefit from some kind of starter level that teaches the basics.
Thanks for playing! There are instructions on the games page
Very creative and unique game, highly polished. Sometimes it felt a bit random based on what cards you would and wouldn't have the next day, but otherwise very nice.
I played a full game, completed 17 contracts.
The game looks good, sounds great, and how well everything works is impressive for a 2 week jam. getting the overall engine building management to work is satisfying.
I feel like it would be feat to make it work the same on an NES but it's not an order of magnitude off either.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks CryptRat! Yeah after the first week I definitely started worrying more about making the game look good vs authenticity, I mainly stuck to 3 colors per sprite, but went to 4 a couple times. Smooth scrolling animations, the night time effect and too many sprites are probably the biggest offences, resulting in it feeling a bit more Mario world than Mario 3. I appreciate your kind words
great idea, great execution. the graphics are sweet, game balance is well thought
Actual banger
Great bit tunes, nice gameplay, and graphics
