Kinda cool subversion of Castlevania! The UI had me thinking it was time to break property and slash some zombies, but the light mechanics were a really nice surprise. I didn't get too far. I thought walking off the right side of the screen would transition to the next level, but instead I just walked off the map and died. I'd like to see more explorations of the light mechanic because the concept of temporary vs. permanent light sources and enemies reacting to light differently seems like a delight. Looks like a recipe for multiplicative design!

Y'all probably know this but the web build isn't configured properly for itch, so I had to download the .exe. My computer was unhappy but I'm a little too trusting of internet executables 😂
I bet other folks aren't so trusting and that's why y'all have less ratings. This entry should get some more eyes on it!!

I got to be the werewolf ONCE and i was immediately killed while trying to learn how he works

aside from that the game really nailed the NES feel and the gameplay is great. One thing i dont like is that weapons can run out and ya can't do shit abt it

I'm happy you provided a downloadable version as I had it downloaded and I played it while itch didn't work. With so many games in the Jam and as the werewolf part of the second level might be above my skill level (I rarely even reached the later parts when you're getting chased by several ghosts as the bats especially always kill me before that) I eventually switched to another game but this is easily one of my favourite games of the jam.

The tunes are amazing, the art conveys NES perfectly and I specially love how smooth the game is to play, in both phases. I love the part where I can use the items possibly the most, it works super well, but the werewolf part is great as well although I'm very bad at controlling him. The different threat the different enemies propose is great, I love to hate the bats and the spiders or the ghosts are also super cool.

My main minor caveat would be that the way items are carried between levels (or half levels) or when you die doesn't seem to work that great, it's unintuitive and sometimes dying is extremely punishing when you have no item left. The enemies being really slow can also sometimes be a problem when you're waiting for them to go all their way through a spider so that you can burn them.

Great game, thanks for sharing!
