I completed the game with 7 lives.

The game is great all-around, it looks great, it sounds great, it's super juicy but in the limit of how a NES game could be juicy, both boss fights are cool. I like the organically integrated  story touches with killing your wife in the beginning or the insurrectionists at the end.

Thanks for sharing!

The pixel art is really good in this entry I love the animation of the wolf man's attacks. Only problem I had is I wish I could skip the intro.

the control scheme you chose was a lil funky and making it so easy to insta-GameOver made me ragequit  O_O

(and my gamepad did not work either)

Developer

uh that's so bad! The "intended" or default control scheme is WASD to move, SPACE to jump and Left mouse button to attack! It's pretty much the default control scheme for most pc games! I've included arrow controls and the "J" key for people that prefer using only keyboard, do you use arrows and mouse? I think it would be unplayable that way? The jump would be very far away lol but even if that's the case I don't understand why you move so weird in your video... GDevelop doesn't have good support for generic gamepads, using mine I can play fully using the left stick to move and A and B normally! I don't have access to a PS4 or Xbox gamepad to test so that is how it is sadly :c thanks for trying it anyway!

lol i'm sorryヽ(゜~゜o)ノ

i know i'm probably just  weird  for having this control preference/blindspot in my dexterity coordination... but i really cannot use WASD + Jump on my left hand if i'm using my right hand for another action (the J key for attack). I can't use my right hand to Spacebar + J either xD

So basically what i might have been able to handle is J/K + WASD/Arrows, or Z/X and Arrows i've seen in a lot of games.

Developer

I don't think that's weird, I played like 25 games today and it seems like the most common layout is what you mention here, arrows/wasd and zx/jk for this type of games! Some games use exclusively arrows/zx and I feel the same way but in reverse lol I'll keep that in mind for future projects! Thanks for playing, the feedback and for giving the game a second chance!

TAKE TWO! Thank you for mentioning i could use LMB for attack! that clicked a lot better and now i actually realize my ragequit earlier was just frustration for killing my wife accidentally while i was learning which button did what, so i think you could make it so she cant get insta-killed accidentally if i pressed attack instead of spacebar by accident to become murder wolf ᕕ(╯°□°)ᕗ

i did a lot better in these attempts! and it was really fun! absolute carnage, great attack animations and sound design!

There's a lot of Castlevania-likes in this jam, but I liked this one a lot. At first it seemed overly hard, but once you learn to (ab)use the second dash attack, it's not so tough. Was it intentional for the king to just kind of stand there in his second phase, though?

Developer(+1)

hahah Thanks for playing! The dash attack was originally binded to up and attack! But there was a chance no one would find it or people just not using it so I changed it last minute to double tap! Yeah the king's logic is very rushed lol, it has timers that are set random between 1 and 5 seconds, it's possible that the dude stays tanking the damage there for those 5 seconds that feel forever lol I think it's also possible the dude just spams attacks? It really needed more playtests lol thanks for the feedback and playing!

Amazing job on making the NES look and feel!

I agree with the other commenter that it would be nice to be able to skip the intro after every death. (but my game also forces the intro on every play so who am I to judge? :D

Developer

Lots of NES games did that BS lol but I think if the time you stay alive playing is long enough that's not an issue! Looks like that is the problem in mine, dude dies pretty easy :v thank you for playing!

Will need to come back to this with the 99 Lives mode. Great work on the feel.

I will say that the limited lives mode would not be so bad if you did not have to watch the wolfout scene each time.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! I couldn't really decide if the player should wait for the cutscene or not XD It wasn't meant to be a hard game either but I couldn't get people to test before publishing, also I think it's a bit like "I got good at my own game" while making it thing! Thanks again!
