Cute and challenging puzzle platformer! I wish my attack range was a little bit longer, cause often I'd miss monsters by a pixel or two and then get killed before I could attack a gain. Speaking of pixels, the sprites don't always line up with the pixel grid of the backgrounds:
Enemy death animations (the rotation) also looks a bit goofy and not quite NES-like. And the game is force scaled to such a high resolution it doesn't quite fit in my browser window, so I had some overscan issues, lol! Otherwise, quite good!
Did it! I think it took me around an hour.
I enjoyed the game a lot! It looks, sounds and plays like a NES game. It controls great and the curse is a fun twist to deal with. The levels are very good including the boss fight, with the right length and a difficulty which is just progressive enough, most levels from the 4th or 5th I struggled with at first then eventually breezed through it, I love levels giving me this feeling. The game ends with a satisfying boss fight (and a cool cutscene, not sure why I happened to read your comment saying it might not work in the web version while I was playing but then I switched to the downloadable version for my few last tries).
Thanks for sharing!
Really great NES feels for your game! The art is super cute (it's so good), and I think the curse mechanic you designed really works well with the gameplay. I'd be curious how your game would play differently with a few tweaks. First, the hitboxes on the enemies and traps feel like they're too big—I only needed to stand next to the spike tile to get hit and the flame enemies kept getting me even though I felt like I was clear or it should have been a close call. Second, I'd have put more contrast between your foreground and background tiles or maybe swapped the palettes—the bats became hard to read/disappeared into the grey background tiles whenever they'd fly into those regions of the level. Thanks for making and sharing your game—I had a lot of fun playing!
Good videogame! Is total NES feeling.
Very much captures the NES spirit with this title. The curse mechanic both serves to help and delay the agency of the player. I wonder if giving a way for the player to control the curse of stone through level progression could be fun! Awesome Job!
Nailed the NES feel. I liked the turning to stone curse in this game and shortness of the levels. Audio is also pretty good. Graphics are really screaming NES. Love it!
Very interesting!
Game was pretty fun! Cute protagonist. Movement and attacking felt precise, and the curse mechanic gave an extra element of thought towards how you approach the level.
Sometimes this was to the detriment when there's otherwise no threat and you're just left waiting out a timer, and it could have done with some added interaction to the form.
(perhaps the extra weight could activate pressure plates, or it could crush enemies if you drop on them as a statue)
The sprite variations were a nice touch~
In any case, aside from some hitbox issues with spikes (especially from the side in level 4), it felt pretty good to play.
Game went to a blackscreen when I beat the boss, so I assume that was the end?
Thanks for the feedback! Defeating the boss should trigger a final cutscene. It might be the WebGL version that isn't playing.
I really liked the game, it sometimes feel unfair and I only get to level 7, but i like it
A really cool take on the theme of Jam, especially how the curse can affect the player agency both positively and negatively! I did find that some of the collision elements felt unfair at times (mostly with the spikes), but otherwise it was a cute platformer!
This was a interesting take on the theme of the jam. The curse mechanic made me plan ahead so I wasn't in a dangerous spot when it happened. I love the pixel art in this entry and I liked that there were multiple sprites for the stone that reminded me of stone kirby.
Really nice platformer with very cute graphics, especially Murciegalo the bat :3 There are some minor hitbox issues with the spikes, but nothing too serious. The jump and double jump physics feel well tuned and satisfying, and the enemies are not too difficult to defeat, which helps the game feel smooth and enjoyable to play. Great job overall !
Loved all the little touches on this one! I don't like the mechanic of being frozen in place periodically, but those details like sometimes turning into a one-ton weight or an Easter Island head made it more fun. I also loved the sprite work, all the animations on the bat look fantastic!
Very cute graphics with nice approachable level design! I don't love the timed curse as a mechanic, but it was still fun to play. Nice job
Yo creo que es muy divertido y realmente tiene esencia de NES.
damn, the curse of turning into stone made the game pretty hard! had fun! Good platformer.
nice music and art!
