Got into a state where one dialog options screen was stuck layered on top of the game:

Developer

Oops! That’s never happened to me before. Maybe it occurs if you enter the house before finishing the dialogue outside with the lady.

I was also able to ring the door bell while this dialog was up. (Unless you have a specific reason not to, I'd suggest blocking the main game loop while dialog is up... either in code or via the paused feature of Godot -- set the dialog layer to process when paused and keep the rest as Inherit / Pausable).

Thanks for the advice!

Nice, really reminds me of the early point and click adventures. Too bad you weren't able to finish it in time, but what's there looks nice and polished. Good job!

Thanks a lot!

Love the style! Felt like an old NES game should. Took a second to figure out the sock sorting but it clicked. Nicely done. One thing that was confusing was the buttons were backwards so I kept hitting the wrong one.

Thanks, that really means a lot to me! Yeah, if you use a controller with Xbox‑style mapping you’ll get A and B reversed, because I used the Nintendo layout, which has them the other way around.

Really cool to see this style of adventure game in the jam! I loved the art! Some really cool concepts in here, but I found the different actions switching between A and B based on the context to be a little confusing—I'd often hit the wrong button impulsively by mistake and would need to wait for the message to be displayed before I could try again. I'd be curious to explore other potential control schemes with the style of game you went with here.

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, you’re right — it is a bit frustrating having to reread all the text every time just because you pressed the wrong action. That’s kind of the downside of trying to come up with a different design instead of using the more common point‑and‑click verb interface. And with the limited buttons on the NES controller it gets even worse, obviously.

Maybe a Mother‑style menu could’ve made things simpler, but I was afraid it would feel too out of style — too RPG‑like, with pauses to choose what to do, etc. I preferred keeping it a bit more immediate.

I’m not sure if I should call the experiment successful, but I’ll definitely keep studying it.

I think the flat shaded room graphics are very strong. Also loved the music, though to me it feels more computer style than NES, culturally. Scrolling in the outside area is a bit choppy and disorienting (maybe looking at how the NES Maniac Mansion scrolls areas could help improving it). The tasks in the first part are a bit mundane (and I felt the sock sorting puzzle took too long), but I was getting intrigued by the second chapter, too bad it's unfinished. Might actually return when it's done!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, I couldn’t quite replicate the scrolling used there, because when I moved in 8‑pixel steps it created a really ugly effect, with the character doing weird little jumps back and forth. So I went with slightly larger increments to make it feel cleaner, but honestly it still doesn’t fully convince me either.

Hehe, it definitely left me curious. The game was pleasant to play, the interface is good. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll try to send a notification when the game is completed after the jam. I hope you’ll like the ending.
