This is so good! nice work
Really well made and feels great to play. Feels just like Ninja Gaiden and the artwork is very Castlevania. Backgrounds and sprites are fantastic and the levels are designed very well with difficulty and punishing enemy layout at the center of the design, which feels very NES appropriate!
Those guys who jump off the edge of buildings and hop around were so hard to avoid and then those skeletons seem to be hypercharged with the amount of bones they were throwing! This can feel a bit unfair at times, but again, it feels like a classic NES game where patience is required to beat it.
Music and sound effects are top-notch. Overall, this is one of the best entries I've played! Well done!
Really amazing game! I love the graphics, audio, and most of the gameplay. But, yeah, the enemies that jump around are placed too aggressively... it seems like they always drop on my head and there's nothing I can do to avoid them (aside from memorizing the layout I guess)... and then with the knockback they end up hitting me a second time. Maybe I just need to spend more time playing. But giving the player more notice ahead of time -- at least early on -- would be nice.
Sick game but f u guys for the secret fourth boss phase of "u think u win? jk bullets"', that killed me twice lmao
Tense af. I think of the games I've played this is the most authentically NES feeling, especially in terms of the game design. Maybe because it's heavily inspired, but it was executed very well. Knockback was perfectly tuned, I loved the wall guys and bats' movements, Mr. Bones is just as annoying here as he is in other games. Core mechanic was simple but solid. Some of the level design felt a little repetitive I think, but the boss fight was so engaging I completely forgot about it, def on the edge of my seat at the end there.
Aesthetically it looks great, sounds great, I know y'all got an eye for authenticity and it shows.
My only other thought was about that the second subweapon, I think it's invincibility or reduced knockback or something, it was unclear what that was or how it worked since I was in the heat of it and couldn't even tell I was flashing(?) when I had it since I was amid getting hit. And I only saw it that one time. I expected it to work like the slash / Castlevania subweapons so I think that could have used slightly slower onboarding.
Overall though great game one of my favs for sure!
I love the graphics! Nailed the nes feel! It's bleeding, crying and sweating castlevania! Love it! tho i hate those ninja enemies that jump around
Health is pretty generous but it doesn't actually matter due to the enemy placement and constant bottomless pits. In how far I got, I'd never gotten close to dying via hp drainage.
Knockback is very classic NES, but not in a good way. They don't make many games like this anymore for good reason.
Plenty of enemy placement that makes it near impossible to get through without perfect timing should you have already died and lost your sub weapon.
Aside from that though the game is absolutely fantastic, graphically it looks stunning, and matches the best of games from the era.
The enemies themselves are fine (the skeleton is pretty aggressive but it feels pretty badass to slice through all his shots), and I really enjoyed the ninjas (when they weren't kicking me into pits), they're visible enough after the first time that you can watch out for them, but just subtle enough that they can still get you if you're distracted with the other stuff on screen.
The sword slash felt great and obliterating your enemies in one quick swing makes you feel very powerful. I really wish there was a down slash of some sort, so many deaths came from needing to jump over to a platform with enemies, them edge-guarding, landing on their head and falling in a pit. The game does at least allow infinite lives as far as I can tell, and has checkpoints, but some of them work against you when there aren't any sub weapons and you have enemies right after a pit.
Out of all the games here, this probably feels the most true to the NES, and if you're nostalgic for that sort of experience, a hardcore speedrunner (or just masochistic) it'll be a perfect fit for you.
Not my game, but definitely someone's game. I cannot deny it was very well made, and the enemy placement is obviously 100% intentional to emulate that old-school kind of experience, and it does that to a T.
Perfect rating from me, I am not suited to judge this masterpiece!
boss made me put down my controller early TWICE, amazing game
Really good. Good job.
very nes and very stylish at that. sadly i suffer from skill issue and constantly got boned. losing my power on respawn definitely made getting back up a little more difficult since i couldn’t go back to the orb. fun nonetheless, and i can’t stress enough how much you nailed the vibe
Great game. Loved the enemies, music, art, and the boss battle made me lock in.
My favorite game so far. Turned me into the AVGN and I loved every second.
Wow, this is perfect. Everything is top‑notch, super smooth, satisfying controls, NES‑style music and audio, graphics, everything. Great job.
Epic experience culminating in an epic boss fight and ending. 5/5 across the board for me. I died after beating the boss the first time, which sent me back to the beginning of the last area (I got them on the next try), but it was unexpected after thinking I'd killed off the boss with so little health left. It might be worth looking into if you make any updates to the game post-jam.
I was excited to play this entry because I saw it in the jam discord and it didn't disappoint. Everything felt spot on feeling like an NES game and the final boss was a fun challenge. Fantastic Game.
This is a really good NES Like game! Love the gameplay and the megaman like ending! :)
Pretty solid entry, glad that there was checkpoints otherwise I could have gone far, ah ah! nice graphic representative of castlevania or Ninja Gaiden! had fun, will surely come back play the game!
This felt like a real NES game with frustrating enemies knocking me into pits and all! loved it!
good game
It took me 15:13:617 and I died 15 times, probably more than half of that before the very first checkpoint.
You nailed that style of game so perfectly, the game looks great, sounds great and controls great and it's juicy. The boss fight is satisfying and the overall difficulty perfect for me for the jam.
