Great game! Loved discovering all of the ingredients' properties! Had a really fun time and even played a second time with all 32 hints to see if I could complete the book (I got 42/48, luck was not on my side).
god why is the music so loud
It seems like a great idea that I can play for hours, but I really struggled with this one. The interactable UI elements could use more feedback. Changing color is a good start but changing size (growing on hover or twisting) would make it more clear. It took me a long time to find the notebook because of this.
Your art is very pretty and meshes well across the whole game! I wasn't able to make a potion correctly, but given some more time I'm sure I would have figure it out. Well done!
Really nice and cozy mixing approach, one of the best this jam :) GG!
the art work for this game was super cute and i loved how interactive all the menus were with being able to click on random things for little surprises ^^ the ui was very clean and you had such a massive system made for the mixing :O really amazing work! c:
I really like the presentation of the game, unfortunately i can't read... Am I supposed to individually try every ingredient in each slot to know what spells to make? It seemed a little tedious, I really like the story and art tho!
Damn! I think many people are confused on how you're suppossed to play the game. Normally, you don't really need to fill the whole book (that's extremely statistically unlikely without the hints), you just need to gain enough information to pass the final test. The hag also tries to help you, so if you've only discovered a few properties, she'll give you a one-ingredient ritual. If you've discovered more, she'll give you a two-ingredient ritual, and only if you've found most of the properties she will give you a three-ingredient ritual. In fact, you could still resurrect the cat even if you used only random ingredients.
If the goal is to maximize points/full entries the game becomes more about figuring out the best way to use its mechanics. You can learn indirectly the proprieties if you do the right guesses (there are only two instances of each propriety for each "level": primary, secondary, tertiary), also all the spells the clients ask need more ingredients near the end of the month, and the book contains all the spells that they could ask so you might use this information to fill out a specific propriety or "level" because you might not be able to do it afterward (making even the first spells not just random ingredients).
Of course, I completely understand why some people might find this overwhelming or tedious. It's a puzzle game, and this kind of gameplay isn't for everyone.
As someone who similarly made a witch game about mixing things together, and also included a really long book to teach the player the mechanics, I can unfortunately tell you that players can't read. And that's why the onboarding process is so important for this kind of games. At this current stage, you can only try random stuff to get all the crosses in the book, and then try to decipher what each symbol mean, and then you can read the long book to make the correct potion for them. At least one tutorial guiding you to a simple spell would really be appreciated, even if it's to get the ball rolling. Otherwise, the art is really charming, and I 100% understand the effort behind designing this kind of system.
I do think the game idea and mechanic has depth and also has protential to be very fun, but the current version just makes me feel I am just gambling. It is really hard to guess the ingredients' properties without any suggestion, and also I just feel it is quite neccessary to records the failures if I make something wrong (like a notebook records something dont have those properties)
Thanks for the comment! Regarding the last part (maybe I'm the one who doesn't understand what you mean), the book the witch leaves you automatically keeps track of every wrong guess, the red crosses indicate a property that an ingredient doesn't have.
Really good game! Took me so long to find out what to mix together!
Wow, this game has a lot of depth - I love the narrative behind it too. Poor cat. Hopefully one day I can resurrect it.
