I got stuck in a collision too, on the second lvl!

Ok the idea is interesting, and the writing is fun. Art is simple but pleasant and original and the music was nice. But I have a but :/ It is something I encounter a lot in jam games, but your game suffer from it a little more than others by its nature: You don't trust the player enough, and you are way too afraid of your game not being play "the right way". I'm not even referring to the extra diegetic dialogue where you ask the player to play your game the right way, this was really funny to me. I talk about how you dictate each step, step after step. The limitation of the jam is "game tells you to do something but you know better than to listen to it", but in the actual game, in a straight forward manner, you tell us "touch enemies, don't listen to ai, talk to npc, go there, do that, this way". There is 0 place for the player to actually run around and mess with the computer's rules. No place for discovery and figuring things out. What should've be a cathartic experience of defying authority, turn out to be us strictly, closely, following the lead of an other authority figure: you.

I still believe that the game has a loooot of potential. You just have to learn how to give space to your player to be players 😌

Thank you so much for the feedback, and I totally agree with you. Some of it was just already integrated in the writing, but also I think some of it was because I let myself be too influenced by feedback I received. Some people in comments and people that I made play in real life said that they were confused, and didn’t know what to do, so I added a bunch of dialog to point the player on what to do next, especially in the first level, but I should have realized that that’s kind of the point: to figure out what to do in your own. Anyways, I really appreciate your criticism, and I will be taking it into account in future projects! And thank you for playing!!!

I like the concept, and the 3D pixel art gives it a unique look. Unfortunately, the interactions seemed to be kinda broken for me, I could only interact with one of the crabs on the first level, so didn't get very far in the story.

Developer

Yeah, the collisions are weird :/ I honestly don’t know how to fix them

This was a neat and wholesome experience ^-^ Well done PurpleGuy + Sola!

Things I loved:

  • The artstyle(s) were really endearing and well executed, great use of the 2D/3D split! :D
  • Loved the writing + characterisations, every character felt like they had their own voice + a distinct personality which is especially impressive given there wasn't much audio! The humour hit very well for me, especially the protag being like "come on dude play the game" XD great stuff
  • Impressive amount of dialogue and particularly keeping the logic flow even when the order was broken, e.g. I tried to leave without speaking to the beach guy, e.g. I went back into the 7/11 by accident and left again and it just picked back up perfectly, well done
  • Pride month let's goooooooo!

Things I'd love to see:

  • It might have broken the diegesis a little, but some visual/audio hint of where the last enemy/stick would've been good, in both cases I had one left and had to sorta scan the entire level to find where I'd missed
  • Different song for each level would've also been nice, it's a bop but did get a little repetitive at game's end (not that I can talk >.>)
  • Apples without cinnamon, like yea it's great but come on EVERY time? 10/10 could not agree more :P

THANK YOU THATS SO SWEET!! I’m really glad you enjoyed my game! And yeah, you’re totally right, the music does get repetitive, I’ll make sure to add some more variety in my next projects. I might even update this one! Anyways again thank you so much for playing!!

I got stuck waiting in the menu and couldn't press any buttons, did wait a decent amount of time, game looks really cute from the screenshots!

Aww, that’s too bad… Did you try interacting with the buttons using ENTER like I mentioned in the controls? It doesn’t work by clicking on the buttons with the mouse.  But anyways, thanks for saying it looks cute!

I got stuck inside/on a crab! Overall good entry with a lot of content. Good job!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, I really need to work on making better collisions, they were really rough…

This is a really lovely game! I really enjoyed the funny dialogue and the art was really great, and the ending was very sweet! I was a bit lost on the first level and second level with what to do but figured it out after a while exploring, and got a tiny dialogue bug in the third level, overall it was really good!

Thanks! I’m glad you played through the whole thing and enjoyed your time! I’m also happy seeing so many people mentioning they liked my art, since I actually started drawing and doing pixel art really recently, so thank you for that!

Liked the art 2D/3D & music! But I unfortunately don't understand that much what to do on the first level.. :(

Developer

Thanks for the comment! I wanted people to kind of figure it out instead of me just telling the players what to do through dialog, but I totally should have added more hints on what to do initially… If you want to know, you were supposed to touch a crab or jellyfish and the story picks up from there

Very cozy vibes, the music is really great! I am a big fan of the ā€œ2D sprites on cardboardsā€ embedded in 3D.

Developer

Thanks you so much! I’m happy to see I managed to establish a nice vibe

Haha when the AI said you prob shouldn't touch crabs I laughed, and then I did it again to see what he'd say and there was actually different dialogue. Super cool I love details like that

This is really good! One critique is that i was a little lost on what to do after the ai left me on the beach walk. Clearer instructions would be helpful.

Developer

Ok, good to know! The only people that had really playtested it at this point were either my friends or family who kind of already knew the concept, so I'll keep that in mind!

Developer

Also out of curiosity, did you play all 3 levels?
