How did you implement the Theme: Death Game in your game?
Demons and gods force the player to risk their life for their entertainment, the player is also the Grim Reaper, aka death itself, sooo.... The plan was also to incorporate HP with shooting and currency but....

Did you implement any of the Bonus Challenges, and if so, which ones?
Not yet, the player would be contacted by the demons and gods, being the gamemaster, there would be enemies that are puddles and jumpscare the player and in the end, the player would either fight the demons or gods. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time for all that.

Does your game contain AI-generated assets?

No

The main menu is a bit plain, and when I tried to play the tutorial it didn’t work for some reason. Overall 6.5/10 could be a 7 but leaning 6.

Developer (1 edit)

Does the tutorial not work for you both in the web and the downloaded version? You are the second person who has said it doesn't work yet for me there is no problem, it is starting to piss me off.

I like the music and sound design, but I wasn't able to make much progress on the game. I'm on Mac, if that helps. I wasn't able to get the tutorial to work, nor could I use the melee attack. Hopefully that's something that can be fixed going forward; I would really love to play more!

Developer

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I think that I accidentally uploaded the wrong version for Mac. When I build the Mac version on Unity, it seems to create another file instead of using the one I selected, and I duplicated the past version, so I uploaded the past version masked as the new one. To be sure, when you say you couldn't get the tutorial to work, there should be a prompt when you click the play button on the main screen. Did you get that prompt

Submitted (1 edit)

I did, and the sound effects started like the game was starting up, but the prompt kept flickering on and off rapidly and the screen was stuck on the menu. I tried it again this morning and the same thing happened

Developer

I'm sorry that you are encountering this problem. Are you playing on the web? I don't have a Mac myself, so I can't replicate the problem, and I have no clue where to even start trying to fix it. You should definitely try downloading the game if you have been playing on the web. If you did first download, then I guess I'm wrong about uploading the old version, which is weird.

Oh my Gosh, that's silly, I should have tried Downloading it! Sorry! I'll give it a go!

Submitted

It worked perfectly! Just needed to download it! In that case, sorry about the fuss! Great game!

Alright, that's good lol. Could I know what browser you are using to play the game? That is like my last hope of finding this rat of a bug. Thank you!

Sure! I was using Safari.

This game was pretty fun, it was interesting to have a quest system and run around the map to complete objectives. The sound effects were nice, some background music to pair with it would have been good. I could not get the melee to work, clicking LMB did nothing. I only shot enemies, but the cursor aiming didn't match where the projectile actually went. Killing enemies took forever, I'm not sure if they have too much health or I do too little damage. I didn't realize I took damage myself for a while, but by the time I had, I had no HP left anyways but received no consequences for it. The character designs looked good, the map was alright, it was at least a little spooky with the fogginess, but it felt rather desolate and empty, not really in a design way just in a way of nothing interesting to see. I had fun being a powerful grim reaper, but did not complete too many objectives before I had to stop. 10/10

Yeah, a lot of what you said was just because I didn't get to spend as much time as expected on the game. The main source of damage to the bats is them colliding with the terrain. There isn't actually a melee lol. Everything you said was, in fact, helpful though! I will think of putting more player feedback for getting hurt, and such. I centred the cursor, but I guess an accurate cursor would be better, and I will lower the bat's health a tad. The player does have 3 lives, which would take a bit of time to convey to the player without some boring black screen paragraphs. I am a bit curious as to what exactly made you stop. Was it just because there wasn't content in the sense that there was only one enemy, the map was pretty bare, and the demands weren't really rewarding? I wonder if you perhaps have an idea as to what I could change about either three, and not add like another enemy, to improve it to the point where you would have played a little longer. I'm happy my effort showed through.

I like your interpretation of the game theme. Being the death reaper and walking around with a scythe a pretty cool feeling.

The hitboxes of the enemies seem a bit off. When battling against the bats in the mountains, I hit them consistently, but on the plain field, most of the hits had no effect. The damage also had a delay or it did hit twice (once at visual hit, and then after a delay). If these are design choices, you could communicate them better so the player understands what is going on. The mechanic could be interesting in regards to the grim reaper draining life energy over time, that's at least how I interpreted it :p

Nice contribution, keep up the work, would be interesting how the godly quests play out in the long run ✌️

Developer

Yeah, I didn't have a collider for the enemy hitbox. I just used the default one, which is a capsule, so it was very wonky. I have fixed that in the upcoming update. I have no idea what you mean by the delay. The bats do get damaged if they ram into something. I'm thinking that is what you are seeing, or else it is a bug that I have yet to reproduce. When it gets hit twice, is the bat rushing away from you?

Submitted

That could be the case, it only happened in uneven terrain, so it probably ram against some hills and got damaged that way. I was wondering why it didn't try to attack me.

I liked the game, it was simple and seemed like time was put into it. I liked the environment and the design of the enemies.

It was a bit difficult to shoot enemies and tell if I was actually doing damage.

Overall, well done

Developer

Yeah, I had a bad hitbox, and the scythe shooting balls was kinda last second, I'm glad I did alright, going to play all the submissions after I get my update out, can't wait to play yours!

Was hard to deal any damage but i really loved the rain effect and the 3D terrain reminded me of the terrain editor for the 1st Medieval Total War if you opted to make really steep hills in the siege level mode.

Gave the game high marks, and yourself an itch follow.

If you like the thing(s) on my other page(s), consider doing the same.

Cheers!
