Orc Bastion is a bit hands-off with its tutorializing, so here's some info to help you get started.

Manual Saving (almost anywhere)

If you're not near enemies or in midair, you can usually save the game. There are no auto-saves, don't forget to save on the reg!

Quest Radar

The circle in the top-left corner of the screen directs you towards your goals (marked as ?), and there's a simple quest log in the menu. If no ? is visible, there are no story or side quest triggers available in the current area.

Exploration

While out and about, you can run, jump, swim in water and climb ladders and vines. Talk to NPCs in towns and check hidden corners for items. The world map itself has a lot of hidden items, as well. Watch out for that little twinkle. If you get too close to enemies, a battle will trigger. You can avoid their line of sight and hide behind walls or barrels if you wish to avoid battles. If enemies emit a faint red glow, they may be quite strong. You may want to save the game before attacking them.

Battles

Each enemy has weaknesses and resistances. Hit a weakness to delay an enemy's next turn a little. Hitting them from behind or from above works, too. For back attacks to work, you need to be at least one cell column to the left or to the right of an enemy. If you hit a weakness, your star meter (upper left) fills up. Once it's full, the next playable character gets two turns.

Learning Skills

You'll get new skills as you progress. To make use of them, they need to be learned. Not all characters can learn all skills. Enter a character's skill menu to see what skills are available. A skill marked with " ○ " is currently being learned and usable, and a skill marked with " ● " is fully learned and always available to use. To learn a skill, select it and set it to your "Learn" slot. During battles, you'll receive LP (Learning Points), and once you've met an equipped skill's point requirements, you can use it permanently, and equip the next skill to learn.

Using Skills and Items outside of Battle

You can use healing spells outisde of battle. Some of them can be cast on all player characters simultaneously. Do so from the context menu of a skill that's been learned or is currently in the "learn" slot. You can also use healing items and status upgrade items via their context menu (select an item in the "Items" menu, and the context menu appears to the right of them).

Sometimes, you need to use a skill on certain hotspots to progress. It needs to either be equipped in a "learn" slot or fully learned to be used. Select it in the skills menu of a character and pick "Use Here" to use it on hotspots. Hotspots are marked with "!" icons that grow bigger when you're near enough. An early quest requires you to melt an ice crystal with a fire spell, for example. Stand in front of it and select "Use Here" from an learned/equipped skill's context menu.

Masters make you Stronger & make more Skills available

While exploring, you'll come across masters who'll join you in Rok's Fort. The Wyrm Altar inside the fort gives you new skills as you find more masters to serve. Keep an eye out for these big fellas! Once you've served them (talk to them in the fort), you'll gain some stat boosts, as well. Your party members are also masters -- talk to them at certain bonfires if you wish to serve them.

Leveling & Buying Equipment

You'll have to keep somewhat up to date with your equipment and your levels. While the game lets you avoid most battles, you may end up under-levelled if you avoid fights too often. You'll need experience points from battles, as well as LP to learn skills. Shops let you buy and sell items. Selecting equipable items will show you how they'll affect a character's stats. You'll also find valuables during exploration, and you can sell them for some profit.

enemies hit way too hard.. I equip the best gears available in shop, learn all skills and use element advantages but the issue is character barely survives after 1 hit and 90% of the fight was spent to stabilize. The -spd armor for melee non-mage character is also massive detriment, they barely help tanking while letting enemies lap 2-3 times over. Any tips?

Developer

Hi! It sounds like you are underlevelled. At what point in the game are you? There are items that increase stats, and triggering adult scenes also gives stats upgrades. There's also a light armor that doesn't have the speed penalty.

Thanks, I spent some times level up a bit and it was smooth sailing until green dragon quest where characters are split up which is troublesome cause I only have gears and levels and skills for 3 characters. One group in particular have no investment at all T_T. Is there a way to finish this quest?

Developer

There are weaker enemies nearby you can level with if you can't defeat any of the bosses with the current character stats. Switching the difficulty may also help.

Hey sorry but do you have any tips on what to do in the crossing the stahl dam mission?

Developer

Hi! This quest's steps are as follows:

1. go to the fort to the east of the dam.

2. inside the fort, make your way up/east and watch a scene (you can get further up through the backdoor).

3. the dam can be entered now. head north along the dam and jump up the debris and enter the dam's interiors, climb upwards and push a switch to pump water upwards to the area with the debris, then you can use the water to go further north.

4. head through the dam's insides to get further north, slide through the moving cogs.

5. boss battle!

Let me know if you need more details.

Thanks I'll try this and get back to you

What does "The shimmering light bring healing and life" means? Do I have to use some spell? Or item?

Developer

Look for light in the water near the sign that says this and follow it to an island.

Thank you

Hello, master. Like how many levels do I have to be at least to enter the mines? Can't even fight against red hue crab and Skeleton without being humiliated. Which is funny since I defeated the giant evil of the desert to get the red arthropod master and already convinced the green dragon I was worthy but nay, still crushed and it's not like I can avoid the enemies of the mines.

Do I have to be at least thirty and all masters fully geared at least, sir?

PS: I love that new profile pic, which character of yours is it?

Developer

I'd suggest to keep playing until you're level 30+ and have better equipment for now.

Developer

The character is from my new project, Shadow Facade.

(+1)

Well, I LOOVEEE IIIIIIITT!!

Another project I'll wait for with glee. All your games are great, as well as the characters, with no exception are hot.

Just last question:

Where's the fallen one?

Developer

The "Fallen One" is one of the names of the last boss. If you follow the main story, you'll eventually end up fighting him. Are you stuck somewhere?

Hello, sir. Mostly just trying to finish the quests of the guys.

Silth is the last master with an impending unsolved business.

So once I beat Falgar, Silth's power's recovered?

Developer(+1)

You can recover Slith's powers after fighting Falgar. There's another area afterwards.

Thank you!

Could you help guide me to the master located "below a large dam on a little patch land in the water"? Can't seem to find anything in Stahl Dam but maybe I missed it?

Don't worry, it isn't in the water, it's in a small Island a bit east of the dam.

You step onto the beach at the right, where there's a crab, and when you swim forward from there, in an almost straight line, you find the island

Thanks, finally found him! It was more east than I expected.

Would you happen to know where the last one is? In a ruined human fort (maybe stalheim)?

If you didn't find the werewolf, he's in the basement. You'll have to defeat THREE damn slimes.

All the way west when you enter the Bastion's basement. Past the Wyrm Althar and the dungeon.

If it is the Frog, he's in the city before Stahlheim Dam

Oh, nevermind. It's probably the main character's boss. He's a dog now.

You'll have to go to the fortress in which Falgar destroyed the crystal and turned one of the generals into a boot.

Once you enter the fortress like you did when you reached Falgar with the whole team, you'll find a hellhound sitting in a soldier's quarters. That Hellhound is actually a master, the general you saw getting turned into  dog right when you started the game.

thanks for the tip! was the fort langley? I checked it out but didn't see anything at the end, I'll keep exploring

Check the rooms on the second floor, next to the book room where there used to be two firebats.

But if it isn't that one either, then probably is the other red hound in Stahlheim's dam. He's a passive dog that just wants t be away of the war, Benno's the one who activates the option of inviting the red hound to the Orc Bastion

got it, thanks a bunch! I thought he was just an enemy so I just ignored him... lol

No worries, happens to the best of us.

Hi, I have a couple of more technical about the game. Appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance!

1. What is the max level that the characters can attain? I would assume something like 50, 99 or even 100, but I have not yet gotten to those level yet (Reyn is around level 40 in both my playthroughs, while the rest of the gang was 30+).

2. On the menu UI, I noticed 3 icons on the top right. However, I cannot really figure out what they are about or monitoring, so I just wanted to ask, what do they represent?

3. Lastly, what does the difficulty adjustment actually do? Is it adjusting enemy defense and damage? I tried a couple of battles, but enemy HP, MP, EXP, Weakness and Resistances appears to be unchanged, so was wondering what was the effect.

Developer(+1)

Hi!

1. There's no hard level cap, but I'd guess at some point, it'd become a real chore to level further. 35-40ish is good for the endgame.

2. The little icons are: 1. Number of treasures in the current area, 2. Number of adult scenes to get in the area, 3. Number of Masters to find in the current area. They're not 100% reliable and may update once you re-enter the scene in some edge cases, but they should work most of the time.

3. Difficulty changes the damage dealt and received:  Factor 0.75 for Easy, 1.00 for Normal and 1.25 for Difficult.

Thanks for the response!

1. Good to know. I was planning to grind like crazy to see where I can get, but if there is no hard cap, then there is no "complete" levelling.

2. Thank you! I thought one could be treasure related, but not sure which.

3. Roger that, so whatever stats I recorded would not change when I was playing on Normal. It is simply scaling the damage formula.

Hi, I noticed that went I enter Falgar's Palace, the third icon indicating masters in the area shows as 1, even though I have recruited everyone and the Wyrm Altar has nothing new to add. Not sure if this is a bug?

Developer

Might be, the counters are a later addition and may have some false positives. I'll take a look.

Just curious, since the red demon made that proposal. Are there chances that your next project involves a character getting pierced anywhere on the body or becoming a piercing?

Developer

I like the idea. I made a scene like that in Hellfire Factory.

Combing through the area, I think the below might have false positives too (or maybe the counter did not go down correctly):

  • Fort Langley
  • Stahl Dam

- Stahl Dam has its master in an island east of the passage.

- Fort Langley's master is the hellhound sitting on a bed in the barracks, next to the library with two firebats.

Yes, I am aware, and I have recruited all masters. The problem is the counter in the menu UI that is not showing as 0.

Developer(+1)

I fixed the counter for the two areas for the next update. Thanks!

oh ya, I noticed that you missed the EXP display fix for Reyn's 1st level and the 1st encounter in v1.03, so, just wanted to leave a note as a gentle reminder.

There is also the master counter in Falgar's Palace (which I believe is a different map than Falgar's Abode? since the counters and travel points are different)

Developer(+1)

I've added the EXP fix after  v1.03, so the next update will have that. I also fixed the false positive in Falgar's Palace. Thanks for the bug reports!
