Really well implemented tower defense mechanics. Turtles are cute and I was surprised by how many mutations there were! Would love to see this fleshed out. The difficulty may also need higher curving towards the end. But very cool!

Thanks for playing! Lirana was really pumping out the cuteness with this one and I was just riding the chaos wave trying to get it all implemented. That's partly why the difficulty doesn't ramp up well. I just ran out of time to go back and really balance things.  This time around it was mostly Lirana and I. I bugged Senna and he took some time away from watching the world cup to get some stuff done and Mr. Marx gave us that sick dubstep track but wasn't able to spare more time.  I need to get better about my time management when I don't have another full time programmer on the team.

I think I'll go back and tweak my scaling so its a little harder.  I need to also do something about the buff turtles. I think being able to have an unlimited number is a little rough. There were also an anemone mutation for the buff turtle and an anglerfish mutation for the sea turtle that I had ideas for that I wasn't able to get done.

Really awesome aesthetics and interesting take on a tower defense game! From your screenshots, it looks like your intention was to have people space out their turtles but this was much more powerful, especially to lock in the long-range turtles. Great job y'all :)

Developer

The towers were placed that way in order to have "pretty" screenshots. Indeed, that is the way my husband (main programmer) plays. 😂 Thank you for playing!

Wow the art for this was great, the turtles were cute little guys :). I think the random mutations are a really cool idea. I like the concept of having to reconsider the tower placement in response to the mutations, it’s definitely a lot more dynamic than I’d expect out of a tower defense game.

Developer

The art was really fun to make, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for playing!

Congrats on making one of the most polished looking games in the jam imo. The designs for the mutated turtles were fun and met the the mutation theme nicely. I felt the difficulty did stall a little towards the middle, so all of the waves afterwards were getting steamrolled within the first few meters. It would be cool to see some larger waves or more powerful crabs in the later game.

Overall very well done, and great music too! I hope you guys get more votes cause you deserve it

Thanks! I had fun making all of the different sea creature mutations. I agree the game is a little too easy. We had more plans for balance, difficulty, and more levels as well, but time got us once again. Thanks so much for playing!

Such a small number of votes is a real rip-off. The graphics, models, and designs are very pleasing and eye-catching. The way the main theme is developed is very interesting and captivating. I was very interested in the designs for each turtle, brilliant work

I think in the future, it would be interesting to see a similar variety of random mutations for enemies, so that the difficulty gradually increases as you progress

Congratulations on successfully completing the game for this jam, and best of luck with your future projects!

The turtle mutations were interesting because I modeled a thing and then my husband had to figure out what it was supposed to do.  Only a little backwards. 😂

Mutating the enemies would be fun! We had some other enemy ideas on the list, but the thought of them mutating as well hadn't crossed my mind. Thanks for playing!

beautiful art, and a good execution of the tower defense genre! i would've loved more challenging enemies, less coin per kill, and/or a level layout that didn't let me pack so many turtle right at the start.

still, an impressive and fun little game! congrats! :)

Would you believe that just a few hours before submission the game was a little too hard? 😂

oh, totally! i know how these jams go, haha!

Really nice presentation and main gameplay loop - I also really liked the mutations as well, very cute!

The game is super appealing visually. The mutations all being sea creature themed was a great way to tie together both the jam theme and unique visual identity of the game. The gameplay was about what 'd expect from a tower defense. I feel like I wanted the ability to move the units after they mutated to fully take advantage of their new abilities. But I enjoyed my time playing it regardless, it was a very cute game!

Developer

There was some early talk about having the ability to move turrets. We even talked about maybe having the turtles walk to where you move them. But it all came down to time. Again. One day we'll scope our game properly before hand. 😅 Thanks for playing!

dude this tower defense is fire graphics are briliant but there is not much versatility in terms of defense but overall i had fun

Developer

I had a lot of fun making the art! I'm glad you had fun, and thanks for checking out our game!

Hey! I would back up the other comment, it's a bit too random that the mutations are randomly determined, I consider tower defense a strategy genre so would look into ways to improve that. The visuals are super charming, love them! congrats!

Agreed there needs to be some way to make more choices in the game and strategize. I agree about the art. Our artist does a really good job (just don't tell her I said that :-p) . Thanks for playing!

Very fun tower defense! The fact that the tower types are randomly determined by the mutations takes away a bit of the strategy, but it's still a very interesting mechanic nonetheless!

Thanks for playing. I wanted to add a way to lock in a turret but I prioritized getting more mutations in because it was the theme and ran out of time. There is some fun in the chaos of things changing constantly but yeah the  unreliability of it makes strategizing harder.
