I liked it. I liked the level design and layering; I haven’t seen this in many games. The weapons were sufficiently varied. (I HATE birds!!!!!!! >:( )

What a lovely bullet-hell. Great art. I refuse to believe this was done in one jam. So polished.

I had fun with this!  Art, music, and the game feel were all awesome.  I thought the elevation changes and the enemies being different heights was very clever.  I played for a long time before understanding the heart kicking thing (my fault for not reading) so it was so exciting to realize I could have all sorts of different weapons!  Really nice work!

I'm a huuuuuge fan of Nuclear Throne, and I think you nailed the feeling. Some weird things: I couldn't kill the birds most of the time, I think I got some but I couldn't understand how (I used kicks and weapons, none seem to really work).  There are other enemies who seem to avoid my shots (like the drills), but it felt less abnormal.

Very good job anyway, I'm impressed!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

You have to jump to hit the birds! We're glad you liked the game though!

Really solid and polished entry - great aesthetic and gameloop, and I really loved seeing the weapon mutations (especially them being randomized), some fun variations and cool animations (the octopus arms were my favourite from a visual standpoint). Really nice use of elevation in level design too - its subtle but it added some nice pace changes. Great work!

Wow. I didn't survive a lot but I really enjoyed it. The aesthetic, the animations, the mechanics.. everything top notch! You should definitely keep working on this. One of the best games on the jam for sure!

Fun game! The verticality element adds a lot. I liked most of the weapon variety but the dynamite launcher felt a little disappointing. Maybe it was a skill but even when I tried to keep my distance with it I would end up shooting the dynamite way past the group of mobs and it would explode in empty space.

Although I didn't work on balance, I like when not all the weapons are equally strong, because it makes you have to plan around having a weak weapon sometimes. Just my biased opinion though, what's more important is if it's actually more fun to play that way.

Developer(+1)

Yeah the grenade launcher is definitely the weakest one even IF you know that you can hold down the fire button to make it explode closer to you (which I feel like a lot of people did not realize). Though there being a weaker weapon doesn’t mess with the game as much as it might others, thanks to how you’re always switching weapons and how you have two different goals to work with (kicking hearts and clearing waves, and the grenade launcher is only weak at one of these). At first I had the launcher one-shot enemies but I felt like it would be such a shame if we couldn’t watch enemies get launched everywhere by an explosion which is why I made it weaker lol

Really cool and fun take ! My Favorite weapon what the whip, it felt very Snappy and reactive !

Submitted(+2)

Cool stuff! I really liked playing with the different heights and how each weapon would change up the strategy. The one that makes the orbs that continue to bounce around the place is diabolical haha. Good game!

Really liked the audio and controls, loved the vertical element to the combat as wall. I found alot of the sound design decisions really fun and different, great vibe!

Developer(+1)

Glove and I appreciate the compliments! I made a lot of the SFX using pitch stretching distortion to give it a kind of ethereal/warped sound. Thanks for playing!

The 2.5D adds a lot, well done.

Submitted(+2)

I think the 2.5D or whatever it's called makes a difference with the other survivor-like games I've played. It's a new skill to learn which is great! I like it! The music is very good, and the art is perfect. Very polished/finished for a game jam, you guys should be proud!

Submitted(+2)

This is great! I love this is different from the most survivor-like shooters that this game has a 3-D space and you have to shoot when the enemies are on the ground. Super cool and thoughtful mechanic.

The music and art are both amazing. Great game!

Cross posting because I'm bad at itch I guess :). 10 rounds 10 hearts and 234 kills. I only had time for one run right now but I plan on at least a few more attempts. I also didn't realize that you could jump up the level and that I needed to get height to hit the birds. The different weapons were pretty neat. I think I did more damage to myself with the saw blades(?) than I did to the enemies. I had fun and want to see if there was anything I missed with a few more runs.

The gameplay is absolutely phenomenal for something made in one week. (I may be slightly addicted) The constant switching of weapons when breaking hearts is challenging, yet never feels very unbalanced or unfair. Even beyond that, the art, music and pretty much everything else is also stellar. If there was a single complaint to think of, it would be the lack of controller support, but that seems like more of a nitpick at that point.

Got a high score of 33 Rounds, 5175 Demons and 139 Hearts on my first run, which I very much intend to beat at some point.

Amazing job, yall!

love how the heart bounces around like crazy and you have to chase it down with jump rolls. Its satisfying gameplay and I think you could definitely flesh this out into a more real game. Great submission.

This game impressed me!

I love the graphics and music. The palette is nice. The sprites are stylish, and the songs go hard. I thought enemy and player projectiles looking too similar would be a problem, but after realizing your own attacks can hurt you, the fact that they look similar made a lot of sense lol.

I like how the hearts force you to move around the arena, and breaking them forces you to change your weapon. The enemies aren't threatening by themselves, but the fact that you have to worry about hearts, forced weapon changes, and self damage makes the game quite engaging. The movement feels great. The guns feel great, and are all pretty different. The only minor complaints I can think of is that a more aggressive enemy type would be nice, and I don't think the pick 3 adds much.

Really nice work with the palette on this one, the are style is very nice and the enemies stand out well against the background! I also like the kick / bounce mechanic for the weapon mutation, though I was hoping that it would also upgrade the weapon instead of  just be switching it around. Either way solid submission!
