I see what you tried to do here - it was a really neat usage of the theme. But this game is missing on player feedback.
It's hard to tell what's happening (for example, I took a long to time to realize that mutations didn't pop up every single turn - that happened because the advance turn button has no feedback besides the sprite changing, so I thought it wasn't even working at all). The lack of feedback also applies to mutations. I had to figure out what each one did all by myself by analyzing their icons and watching the stats change. And even then, I don't think I can tell what a single one of them do.
This game has a lot of potential, but the lack of info really drags it down. I really want to see this game being worked on a little more. Definitively will try it out again anytime soon!
Hi! Thank you for playing and the useful feedback. I see your point and agree that the current state is too cryptic which reduces player agency. I will probably work on an updated version for which I will try to improve the balancing and add more direct feedback
I like the vision behind this, though thus far as you said, it doesn't seem quite balanced yet. I think I got the idea behind some of the powerups, but an explanation on what each does would be helpful if you decide to continue working on this project.
Solid entry!
Hey, thank you for playing and leaving a comment! I agree that the balancing probably needs most of the extra work and more explanation would be needed. Thank you for the feedback!
This was quite fun, though challenging! Is there any end game/win condition? It would've been really nice to see what stats each card adjusted, but it still felt really nice and especially fun once I learned them. Even just adding a small explanation to the description would be very helpful since it can't be included in the game now.
Getting the ideal temperature right felt really nice, as soon as I did I exploded up to 400 bacteria which felt really rewarding! Overall a fun experience, and congrats on your first game jam!
Hi, thank you very much for playing and your kind comment! :) I agree that the game is too cryptic and I will add more explanation to the next version. At the moment, there is no win condition. For now, I intended to let the player collect as many points / turns as possible but I think they need more agency to make it more rewarding.
This is pretty cool! I didn't understand some of the cards/upgrades, and some seemed to not work (lower temperature was very inconstant, but raise temperature always worked). What is the rotating arrows?
Neat concept and fun visualization of it.
Thank you for taking the time to play and comment! For the next upload, I will add a manual and check the temperature events. The rotating arrows were supposed to represent a "recycle" symbol. The idea was that every time a bacterium dies, it releases a few nutrients back to the water. But I can understand that this was not intuitive at all :D
Cool idea, I just sat here watching the little guys duplicate. I wish there was an explanation of the mechanics though, I was a little confused on what options to pick for the mutations and I never figured out what the temperature did.
Hi, thank you for playing and commenting! I was too much in a rush at the end, but I should have added more explanation to the game. The idea behind the temperature was that it starts to cause extra damage to the bacteria if their optimal temperature is too far away from the water temperature.
