What a charming gem of a game! Love every aspect from the visuals to the music and sounds. Gameplay is super unique and I liked how each character has their own abilities and the resource management is really cool. I did manage to softlock the game though idk how and im not sure what the fishing ability does? Regardless, very solid entry!
Such a cool concept! I really liked the way spinning worked in this one - glad I didn't have to really crank my wrist to keep things moving, but it encouraged me to explore a lot because it was fun to move around. I also liked that all of the character dialogue would just pop up when I approached them, making towns/exploration more fun.
If you continue to tinker with it, it would be nice to see how far I can move or aim before I initiate the action(s). There were times when I put myself in an awkward corner and had to backtrack to get a better angle, but if I had known my limitations, I would have chosen a different path. I also wound up too close to my first enemy standing back-to-back with him only to realize my character couldn't turn around to aim, so I lost a turn that way - would be nice for the character to "face" whatever direction of the attack after their movement ends (or maybe that's an intentional limitation - in which case I just need to learn all the characters so I know how they work).
But a really nice entry, and the first I've played in this style for the jam. Nice job!
This was really cool and creative! I absolutely love the character designs and the animations. I really enjoyed the different styles of combat, as well as the special abilities. The mechanic and concept was very creative and I enjoyed beating it. Great submission!
Amazing game! I really liked how you integrated the theme into an unconventional control scheme without making it feel clunky. The pixel art is also great, especially the character designs.
I'm not sure if I missed something, but I wish there had been a short story introduction at the start. At one point, one of the NPCs mentioned something about a game show, and I was a bit confused. Also, the battle music dies down a bit too much at the end, which makes the loop point more noticeable. These are really just small nitpicks, though.
Definitely one of my favorite submissions so far. Thanks for sharing it!
WOW! What an entry! I had so much fun playing this and I hope you will make more! I would give my feedback but I can see that someone has already made every point I wanted to make, namely:
Ability to switch between characters in combat
Max movement distance indicator
Ability to move around camera to scan the arena
Additionaly, I would mention you should add damage numbers, and health bars or a stat sheet when hovering over an enemy. And lastly, MORE CONTENT! I want to play more of whatever you have in store! the art is beautiful, the fact that you do almost every interaction with the crank on the right and the sounds are nice and crunchy.
Woah, at the beggining I had no idea that I'm playing a strategy game!
Few suggestions/ideas that could possibly improve the gameplay:
- ability to switch different characters, as currently you have to play Chelsea first and Mykel second. If you could possibly change the order players could create more interesting combos and strategies
- some sort of indication for max distance while moving? Though after some time it is pretty intuitive
- maybe ability to move the camera around? Though it's also not as big of an issue, because after the first round we see every single enemy on the map anyway
But yeah, overall, very cool and interesting (and yeah, a little bit surreal, I agree xD) experience!
This was such a fun and unique project I liked it a lot! The gameplay felt very strategic but also wasn't too hard to handle, and the crank being used to move is an interesting take on the theme, especially in a type of turn based combat game like this. The pixel art is gorgeous with sick ass character designs for both the enemies and the protagonists, and the environments themselves were also well put together and designed. The dichotomy between the two main characters in battle was really fun to play around with too, as one was better for brute force attacking while the other ranged combat. I really enjoyed this game and I could play it for hours more if it were longer. Spectacular job! :D
Using the crank to move and aim was so clever, would be a great mechanic for sailing in a pirate game! I didn't get to see too much of the game as I had a game-breaking bug and had to move on, but hopefully will get some time to enjoy it down the line. Well done!
Check out your game on my video:
Cool game!! :D
Enjoyment: 5/5
I really liked the idea of having the gameplay be a turn based RPG but with the twist of more "organic" movement, which also has the twist of being spin based. Very cool!
Creativity and Theme: 5/5
Very creative usage of the theme! I kinda wish that both of the characters had spinning implemented in their attacks and not just the fisher one, but it's still very well respectable.
Visuals: 5/5
I loved the simple pixel look of this! Kinda reminds me of Nuclear Throne. The winning animations were cute I liked them a lot. The only issue i have is each transition between the different "zones" feeling too abrupt. Like what do you mean I won and then i'm suddenly in a desert?? But that's understandable with the jam time constraints.
Audio: 4/5
Very nice audio, my only complaint is the battle music ending up feeling a bit repetitive after a while. But other than that it's very solid!
Seriousness: 5/5
Indeed very serious.
FINAL RATING: 4.5/5
Very very solid!! I like this one quite a bit! :D
I really like it ! the visuals are great, and the gameplay is really interesting, I liked the fishing minigame
Woah this was a really polished experience! I love the visuals, sound, and combat system. It was a little confusing at first, but I eventually knew what I was doing. I also really enjoyed the Juniper Dev cameo lol. Overall, a great submission. Well done!
Loved it. I liked how the theme was used and the game has a lot of charm. The battle music goes crazy, reminds me of the Hylics OST
