i love the graphics and the concept but it's really hard to understand what's going on and what you're supposed to do, maybe a better tutorial would've helped! but knowing this was made in only 24 hours makes it impressive!
I have one thing to say to players like you: Read the description.
i read it and still didn't understand it, maybe a visual way to guide the player would've helped more. but maybe it's just me!
Oh, Mom, why are you doing this to me? I'm just a little child; you can't seriously expect me to catch up with an adult like you, all while pushing this giant and clumsy shopping cart full of fruits!! Mom, please stop and wait for me, I don't want to lose my 3DS privileges! I'm doing my best, I swear! Mom? Mom???
... sorry, this was a bit of a traumatic flashback I had after playing this freakishly hard game. To be so cute and cruel at the same time, it's simply amazing...
Really frantic but fun! I liked how you could put the shopping cart through walls, it made for some more creative uses of the movement and the map, so really glad you allowed that! I really like where you're headed with this game, so some suggestions: In the future it would be nice to have some sort of idea of where the mom will go next. I think it's sometimes nearly impossible to get to a fruit when it's on the other side of the store, even when using my dashes, so it might be good to at least have an indicator so that the player can start going to the next location before the mom starts moving again. This could be in the form of a thought bubble above the mom about what she needs next?
Overall the movement was nice! I think some more UI elements would be incredibly useful, especially for when a dash is ready and how long the dash is being used for. At times I would continuously hold Space, and accidentally dash twice when I didn't mean to, losing a fruit. I also think that for balancing purposes, maybe have a speed-boost-type mechanic that does not remove a fruit from the cart. This way the player can reliably use that skill, and can choose to use other ones that are more effective at getting from point A to point B but have that possible chance of losing a fruit.
Overall, really neat concept and fun to play! The artstyle was also nice and charming, and there's definitely room for different map layouts, different mechanics in the map (conveyor belts?) and other cool stuff! Great job!
Thanks for the thorough review! I agree with everything that you've said, and I'll try to implement those changes after the jam is done :D
Unfortunately, It isn't very intuitive and feels very RNG based with where the mom will go next. I can't always tell where the next fruit will spawn. The mom would just break my ankles very often even if I give up fruits to dash. Also I understand that the point is to just reach the moms next location before a certain timer runs out but it doesn't feel good to lose a fruit to do this since it is almost always a forced action when the next fruit spawns far away (also with RNG).
I enjoyed the movement itself though - it was fluid and felt clean to dash.
Fun art style but the audio was basic and repetitive - also very loud with no settings. I understand it's a jam so this is not meant to be harsh criticism, just some thoughts you can carry over to your next idea/project.
Ah! Yea, I shoulda added audio settings. My bad! Thanks for yer feedback.
It took a bit to get used to it, but I actually had a great time! I love how the cart can go through walls, it helped lead to some very satisfying plays. I ended up getting really lucky with 16 fruits as my high score.
Ay ggs! I actually just added a major hotfix, so try it out again later.
The difficulty now starts easy and ramps up depending on how much fruit you have.
This one was a real blast to play, it took me a minute to get how to play, but once I did, I was frantically making sure that I succeeded. I got 6 fruits for my high score, great job, real accurate as well
Glad to hear it! I'll probably add an in-game tutorial, since some people never reads descriptions lmao
The authentic mom experience. I won't complain about the difficulty, because you said not to. :)
Thank you for making a game!
I appreciate that! Glad to see that you guys had fun playing :D
I know you said don't complain about the difficulty, so that's going to be what I start with. What's the intent of the difficulty? I often don't get more than 3 fruits because I often have no idea where I'm going without following mom, and she's always faster than I am unless I boost. (After typing this, I re-looked at the description and did see a comment explaining how to find the fruit based on mom, but I spent multiple rounds not realizing it).
I'm not sure if you were actually serious or not with the DO NOT complain about it comment, but it unfortunately did rub me the wrong way. When I learned that the person who knows the game's systems better than anyone else can't beat it and didn't want criticism of the difficulty, I didn't feel like it was worth even trying. It just left a poor impression before I even started the game. Which is a shame, because the idea is really fun!
I'd also recommend mentioning in "controls" section of the description that you look with the mouse, because I didn't realize that at first.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to improve that a bit!
