Ah I enjoyed this one! At first the controls were confusing to me, the WASD doesn't click as well with the head because the lines are going everywhere, and the tip to just hold the mouse button and drag just led my spider to have a loooooooong queue of actions and for a while I was really confused why it was moving on it's own. Only when I figured out how to control the spider properly and how to pick up caught bugs did start enjoying this game more.
Nice music, but it was a lil too much for me for the kind of game it is. Visually really cute. Overall, I enjoyed it good job!
Glad you liked it! Yeah, we could've gone through some more fine-tuning with the on-board controls but fortunately it seems a lot of users such as yourself seem to understood the gist of it. Either way, thanks for playing!
Incredibly unique idea! Very enjoyable game, although the in game instructions led me to believe i needed to pick up a cocoon and then take it to the baby, but no you just pick up the babies as you go and same for cocoons. the web closing mechanic is super fun! I wanna see it expanded further with more enemy types and maybe hazards!
Thanks! We've wanted to add hazards of some sort but time constraints got in the way but we're still glad that you enjoyed our game!
The idea of spider's spinning webs is a clever take on the theme! Also the baby spiders are very cute. The mechanics of the game only really take one round of play to understand, which makes it easy to get into. Amazing job!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
That was cute! I actually hadn't thought about spinning like spinning a web somehow, very creative!
I didn't get right away what I was truly supposed to be doing but being a spider and all that is was easy enough to figure out as I was going and with the style of game this is it worked out just fine so I am actually glad I didn't get a long tutorial explaining everything and that you just let me figure things out!
Very fun little game! Well done
Appreciate the feedback! We're glad that the game "clicked" for you to get the hang of it. It's awesome to know that you were still able to enjoy our game this way. :)
Good job with this game! I really liked the game feel. The screen shakes, the sound effects, and how everything was moving on screen worked well. It's hard to get good game feel in a game jam but you managed to get it done! Also I like your take on the theme as well.
Thanks for the insightful comment! Getting the feel for the game right was definitely a road block for us so we're glad to hear we've managed to do so.
Cute little arcade game. Would see 10 year old me having lots of non-stop fun with it. The introduction to the mechanics through the images and description is not something I've seen often in this game jam (it was either just text or intuitive tutorials baked into the gameplay). It's very clear that you went in a completely different direction compared to other entries and nailed the old school arcade feel in a really creative way. Visuals are pleasing to the eye, it would be hard to find music that fits this game better than what you have, and the game is undoubtedly serious because I could see it being used to teach kids about spiders in an interactive and fun way. Seriously though, good job. Only downside was the lag in browser but it seems to just be something wrong with the browser because the downloadable Mac build worked super fine.
Overall it was really fun capturing bugs and saving the babies, 5/5 👍
Wow! Thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback! It really means a lot to the both of us after working so hard to get the game up and running. So hearing how you and many others have been enjoying the game overall really makes me glad how the game ended up.
As for the browser related issue, we'll probably look into it post-jam if time allows us but it's very reassuring to know that the game works as intended through downloads. Again, thank you so much for the detailed review. I'm happy you enjoyed it! :)
Really really fun game although it took me a minute to understand how to play it. The browser version was a bit laggy for me, but after downloading it, it ran perfectly. The nostalgic, old-school vibe of the game's pretty cool.
Thank you for the feedback and I appreciate the old-school comparison!
Very creative idea, don't think I ever thought about web spinning for the theme. I do think the controls for wasd were a little wonky at times, but click to move made a bit more sense. Fun game!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the feedback!
Well done :) I liked the creativity, the theme is well matched, and it looks awesome. I played it with holding the left key of the mouse and it worked well. Also some pretty cool details, like the sun and the reverse display of the points earned at the end of it.
I'm very glad to hear that! I also find myself using the hold left click strat to be more beneficial!
I enjoyed the unique take on the theme and the cute art, I would say I wish the movement buffering was a few less, at one point I accidentally lost track of what was happening and sort of just had to watch all my queue'd moves play out, but I found having a movement queue of some size a huge QoL and the game had a lot of other touches that clearly showed a love and care for the game
Haha thank you kindly! I totally get the movement aspect for newcomers so I'm glad it finally "clicked" for you once you understood its nature.
Really good use of the theme! Was enjoyable to play, nice work :)
Thank you so much, friend!
Fun game! I ejoyed it. The concept is neat and a ton of effort has clearly gone into this.
Glad to hear you enjoyed, Looking forward to trying out Cyclone Rush after my shift!
Wow this is a really neat concept. It took me a second to fully understand, and a dedicated tutorial section where the player can try and capture a single bug (and save others? I'm still not sure on how to do that) would help there. Ultimately the game-play loop is strong enough to stand on its own tho and with time I was able to understand the basic concepts. The more unfortunate part was the aspect ratio, which showed up a bit to small on my screen, so the finer details of the interesting art were a big lost, and some of the words in the opening screen were hard to make out.
I want to add that I liked clicking the nodes more then using WASD to move. It felt more satisfying and better to control.
Hello, thank you for expressing your interest & feedback! Aspect ratio has been adjusted, thank you for letting me know. A tutorial was on the docket but was cut due to time constraints and replaced with the how to play screen.
Thanks for the play !
(P.S I agree, WASD was inferior to the mouse)
It's hard to put trust in a random .exe file. I suggest you make a web build if possible
Thank you for your interest! Web version is officially up, if you encounter any issues, please feel free to reach out!
