iron lung with a spin

Incredibly atmospheric and unique.  Love how weighty and heavy everything feels, complimented by the great sound design.

I do wish the core would stay spinning just a bit longer, but other than that it was super cool experience.

This just takes me back to iron lung. Difficulty is by far the only problem I see with it. Visuals are nice, mechanic simple but works, sounds are perfect

Developer

Thank you!! Yeah Iron Lung was one of inspirations :) and yeah it appears to be too hard for most players its on my part... Glad you liked it!

hey i gotta say the visuals are really good and it was a really cool game to play i dont think i ever played anything like it so pretty original !

Developer

Thank you so so much! When i saw the theme of game jam i just new what i had to do. :) Glad you liked it!

i love the idea of this game, and the visuals are stunning. ambience is also really well done.

the only thing i can really complain about is the difficulty. The core runs out of charge way too fast, and enemies attack too often imo. its hard to even get a single kill. other than that, great game

Developer

Thank you so much :) yeah dificulty turned out a little bit overwhelming for everyone. Glad you enjoyed it!

My hand hurts from turning so much! Also the enemies shoot so much faster than I could ever, its hard to keep up.

Developer

Yesss sir! Lots of turning and enemies are no joke. :) Thank you so much for playing!

This one is delightfully clunky, but it quickly becomes too much to manage - having to spin the core, the wheels for each ammo type, firing the weapons, positioning aim - I almost feel like less might've been more. The mechanic of aiming with the wheels is nice, as is the wheel to select the ammo types - but maybe a simple bar you pull back to load a shell in and fire it would fit for the weaponry?

The scaling does feel off, but it's got merit, and the act of adjusting your aim before loosing a round feels like driving a large, heavy, clunky tank. I'd almost say more enemies with weaker defenses would work, and making the defense more rock-paper-scissors. Piercing rounds for shields, normal and light for hulls. It does feel like too many shots are needed to take out the tougher enemies, leading to a sort of slog of adjusting aiming, firing, adjusting, firing.

I think this game could shine with the rapid-stress of having to pivot to a new target every shot, as the more exhilarating moments were when I was getting pelted with rounds and had to pivot 180 to find the enemy currently lighting me up.

I think if you made this a tank simulator type experience, it would be perfect, and could definitely shine on steam as a solid combat experience.

EDIT: Just saw on the game page this was made with AI assistance. How much of that was used?

Developer

Wow that's a lot! Love your commitment:). Yeah balancing side is the weakest on my side for some people it turned out easy and boring and some can't pass one enemy. I tried to do some cool upgrades like zero recoil light ammo etc. to spice up game play. So you are spot on! About Ai UE5 doesn't support full ai integration so you can check that i am not lying :) Claude code helped me create some more complicated C++ classes. Idea, balancing(even though its bad), level creation, audio wire up, writing and parts of the code were done by me. I sincerely believe that Ai with all its horrors can be useful tool for solo game designers like myself. (People that use it for: Make GTA6 make no mistakes. And bloat field of gaming are dumb.)Glad you checked it out!

It's like if you could fight in MYST. Very creative.

The most spinning of all games in the jam I've seen so far. My arm literally is aching right now, but it was worth it. A few constructive notes from me though: too much is offered to the player at once, meaning types of ammo, where to rotate, what to aim, and the immediate pressure of being knocked out of fuel confuses most of the people from what I've read. And that scaling is probably the reason why I haven't given this game 5 stars in enjoyment. Upgrades are nice, but again - scaling kills the satisfaction from getting them, when I expect to survive for longer, but it occurs that in wave 3 I get shot twice as often so I indeed am losing power even faster regardless. Nevertheless, the game is a perfect starter towards a game that could be very successful on steam, especially targeted towards military enthusiasts. Very serious indeed!

Yeah lots of spinning :) Yeah it would be great to make tutorial and gradually introduce player to new stuff but for purposes of this game jam i decided to go all in. Glad you liked it!

Very much a spin to win game!! You nailed the atmosphere: it's very tense and cool. I didn't understand how to aim until I went on your steam page and saw the gif: maybe change the center point to a crosshair shape would help. Really cool, very hard. I like it!

Thank you so much! Yeah redability of UI and game elemets is my weakest point and i am working on it :). Glad you liked it.

The game is really good, kinda difficult and slow but i suppose thats the idea. It would be great to turn the camera with the arrows or  WASD.  And music, diegetic music could be a great addition.

Developer

Thank you! Yeah it turned out slower and harder than i originally planned. But I'm glad you understood. ) Yeah i just couldn't find any piece that would acctually fit in so for jam i decided to go without music. Thank you again!

Concept is good, i like it. I think it needs a little bit of balancing. I found myself having time to only move one axis and having to spin the core for 15 second again just to go turn the other axis. Maybe make the core spin for longer or charge faster? Either way pretty good submission!

Developer

Great that you liked my concept! Yeah balancing was hard because some people weren't able to get past one enemy other made till the end and it was mostly boring :( So i tried to keep intensity with actually beatable enemies. Thank you for you feedback!

Super cool theme, visuals, and sound design. Very difficult! Great work!

Thank you so much for your kind words! Glad you enjoyed it :)
