This was pretty fun! I like that you completely focused on the gameplay rather than the art with the very little time you had. I'm also not experiencing the weird collisions everyone else is talking about, so it could be something like lower frame rates causing inaccurate collisions, but that's just a wild guess.

Developer

Thanks! Gameplay is all I’m really good at ^_^’ I would have liked to have done more for the visuals, I just made the different pieces vibrant colours for prototyping and left it that way. And the level layout was quite hastily scrambled together!

Good thinking about the frame rate; could also be that the way it bounces off of the wall is an unexpected way for it to move, and probably at some of the funkier angles I put into the level maybe it is bouncing into the other side. I’ll have to investigate and work on it some more if I come back to this, maybe analysing more how the original game does it; but it works perfectly if you play perfectly XD

Cool game! The collisions feel a bit goofy and the game could use some polish, but overall pretty good.

Never heard of the original game, but this arcade concept is quite cool! Would love to see more levels with hurdles and traps. Also, don't hesitate to use assets packs to add a bit of "juice" to your game, even if it's only for the lives icons.

Congrats!

Thanks ^_^

Me too, if I had a bit more time this week I absolutely would have added a couple of extra levels, I sort of rushed the one that’s in there ’^^ same for assets, I just used the in-built Godot icon to save a bit of time

I love the idea behind it, like other people said here though the collisons feel a tad goofy, and I would love to see more levels based around this.

OK, i have to thank this game for informing me of the existence of kuru kuru kururuin... playing this i thought, "i would love to play a full version of this", and now i basically have it lol

You’re welcome ^_^

Great idea! The collision is a a tad inconsistent/jank - and causes lag in the web version

Developer

Hmm, could you give any more idea of how you found the collision inconsistent and janky? It seems to mostly work fine for me. The lag spike probably comes from the small particle effect triggered on a collision, but that doesn’t cause any issue for me.

Thanks for playing!

Pretty neat idea, though the collisions felt a little jank, I do enjoy simple games like this that could become anything.

Maybe you could add a mechanic to let you to speed up the rotation when you hold space or something, it would add a cool speedrun element to it I think.

(think I got the highscore for now? 41s)

Developer

Could you tell me more about the collisions? They seem to work as expected for me no matter what I try! Although you can get it a bit stuck in the wall if you’re not careful, so perhaps that’s what you mean. It took absolutely ages to get the collisions working as well as they do! Absolutely the worst part about making this game lol

In the original, there are sections where your rotation is sped up or slowed down to make the level harder, and losing lives causes a time penalty, so there’s an inherent speedrun element in trying to complete levels with the fastest time without being too risky.

Man, I liked your work—I found it challenging. Maybe using different artwork would have made it more appealing, but I saw you mention you didn't have much time. Still, it's a good game!

Developer

Absolutely. Thanks for playing!
