This game has certain motivations that make me want to finish it. I think that's my statement! The gameplay is really smooth and retho. These vibes combine together, and it produces such quality and make you game so much more enjoyable! You really nail it! Congrat!

Great game, love the N64 vibes.

Got stuck at the castle level, keep falling down to the begining :_D

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you! For the castle I think I'll put a second checkpoint half-way up to be a bit nicer :) Will do some tweaks like that after the jam rating is over!

Submitted(+1)

Great to hear that, I will be glad to try it again for the next update!

This a really nice game that i really enjoyed , but I personally feel that the player walking should be a bit more useful !! :D

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it :) The walking is mainly there for vibes and for small adjustments, but I could flavor it up a little bit more sure!

This game is much deeper than I expected. I also loved the aesthetic and the sound design. Very cool!

If this game isn't top-rated, it's literally a hidden gem. And like a good isopod, I'm glad I found it :)

Cool art, lots of variety in locations, secret spots. A lot of work has been done in this regard!

The only thing that bothered me was the checkpoint. I guess I'm bad at platformers (or the game needs more forgiving timing and input buffering), so I ended up putting off playing through to the end.

I'd also like a story. Yes, it's a jam game, but in the N64 atmosphere, I think it's important to have a funny character talking nonsense :)

But I'm very happy with the game; I even forgot that it was a jam game, not just a cute platformer I found somewhere.

Same vibes :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing!! I'm glad you like the locations :)

I tried to make checkpoints nice and not too common but not too difficult, but others I didn't make their shapes good enough so I have a lot to learn about them! When the jam ratings end I'll go through and touch stuff up like that! :D

Developer

If you are able to describe the checkpoint(s) you had a problem(s) with, do let me know btw! That would be very useful to write a note about on my end for later. I have a video on the game page you can use for a timestamp if needed :D

Also forgot to respond to the story part! I was considering adding a story to this, with a cutscene and some NPC in the map for this, but I ran out of time sadly :( It would be cool to flesh out the world with more dynamic stuff like that between the player and other characters though for sure!

There are a lot of places up there where it's very easy to fall back to the very beginning with a small mistake.

As I can see from the gameplay, it was difficult for me because I hadn't mastered the jump after hitting the ground properly. More precisely, I didn't notice that the height of this jump also depends on the degree of the jump. I don't know if there was no tutorial, I'm not paying attention, or I'm just stupid :)

But the game can be completed without or almost without this jump, albeit with difficulty. It's cool that the mechanics are so deep, of course, but it would have been better if they'd FORCED me to learn it.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Ahhh that one yeah, the castle is a sort of mini "Foddian" section which is why there is only that one checkpoint. However, I was considering adding a second checkpoint after you do the two jump pads in the wooden side section (where you jump through the holes). I may end up doing that at least since that's roughly half way up :) Thanks for the info!

As for a tutorial, there "is" one, but it's more so the starting area and the signs, but they can be ignored/not seen so I need to do another pass on that for sure!

Siiick! I hope you enjoyed it :D

Submitted(+1)

I did! It was a such a fun experience, chaining my bouncy jumps and all. Absolutely amazing, it really does feel like a polished, finished game.

Submitted(+2)

i LOVE the n64 artstyle you chose for this! the music is really cute also.

Submitted(+1)

Nice world design.

Submitted(+1)

This nails the early 3D era Nintendo style! The movement  is great and allows for a good amount of player expression, level design was great and I was very impressed at how much of the world you've already built! The only thing I could see being problematic for other players is the lack of explanation on chain jumping, but that's no big deal.

I felt so betrayed by that one checkpoint loading zone after doing "the thing" though :(

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I'm glad you liked it! It was my first time making a 3d platforming controller and providing those signs, so I'll get better with them :D

For the checkpoint you mentioned, is this "the thing" you are referring to? (timestamp to my 100% video, If not then let me know what timestamp haha)

Submitted

OH, so it wasn't intentional. right at the 9:52 mark, the game teleported me to a previous checkpoint and I couldn't get past no matter how many times I went back up.

Developer (3 edits)

Huh, that's interesting. So you "died" in the pipe to the floating island somehow? 🤔I'll see if I can replicate that, but if you have a video of it by chance that would help as I haven't encountered that!

Developer(+1)

I think I found what you ran into. Did you hug a corner by chance? I just checked and the upward vent didn't reach all sides properly so you probably fell as you transitioned to the sky and you hit the death zone :( I can't upload a patch for that yet but it's fixed now.

Submitted

I may have. I don't think I hit any walls, but I wasn't paying attention to the size of the updraft itself.

Developer(+1)

Gotcha, sorry about that!

Submitted (1 edit)

Yo wait I'm blind LOL, I just replayed for a few minutes and saw there is a sign that says chain jumping. I probably zoomed way past it, to be fair.

Submitted(+2)

Really liked the N64 vibe, very nice visuals

Developer

Thanks! :D

I like this one, it's got that old school charm to it, and I'm a sucker for those retro style platformer games.

My main critique is the main character feels a little slow at times - and the spin mechanic for rolling around sits in an odd spot. I'd almost say to give the character personality, gut their normal walking, and have them spin everywhere - with the transition from idle to roll having a neat pop-in/pop-out effect for them diving into the roll state and back. Give them a bit of juice and it'll really hit home.

The gameplay is the collectathon standard, so I'm definitely gonna have to sit and play this game some.  It handles well, the aesthetic is on point, and I can see this being the kind of thing to release in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for playing! You are right that the walking is slow, and that's generally on purpose. It's to let you reposition easier, or just stroll when needed and take in the atmosphere. I mostly bounce around at the speed of light so I mainly walk when I want to go slow or do small jumps :) I'll tweak some stuff with both post jam for sure tho.

Let me know if you end up completing it! :D

A solid collectathon with intuitive controls that make jumping around with this lil bug so much  fun

Such a charming game!  I got stuck with a jump I couldn't make in the underground, but made some good progress and had a blast doing it (though I feel like there's a lot more map left to explore).

Very nostalgic.  Art style really nails that late-90s/early-00's low-poly feel.  Movement feels a little floaty, but pretty good once you get used to it, and the moveset is varied enough that you have options for how to get around, which is great.

All-around awesome little game.  I expect I'll come back to it later to try to grab more of the collectibles.  Amazing job; one of the favorites of the jam so far!

Submitted(+1)

Got that old school sonic adventure vibe, well done! The game did get a bit laggy once I got to the fountain area (mac, webgl)

Submitted(+1)

Wow, great game! I love the art style, the controls are smooth, and the map is well made. 10/10.

Submitted(+1)

This one was a lot of fun! I love the low poly aesthetic. The gameplay was very polished too. It felt really nice to move around as this little guy and experiment with his movement to see what kinda jump speeds/distance and height I could get.

Submitted(+1)

I really loved the art direction! I found the movement to be a little bit floaty at first, but after I got used to the controls that game was really a blast to play! It's crazy impressive that you were able to complete this in the time limit for the jam! Congrats on a very fun submission!

Visual bug floor (at camera rotation)

there is wall glide bug when jump -> fall -> falling on the wall

you can jump & press forward -> midway release forward and press backward -> result: jumping in backward direction

Developer

Thanks for trying it out :) Yeah I didn't have time to add camera collision, and I kinda like not having it for some reason. Will look into it post jam tho. As for the wall glide bug, is that for jumping up a lot of the walls? If so that's something I found funny and kept haha.

I am blown away. That was fantastic! I loooove collectathons, this was beautifully made.

Lots of content and the level design was able to keep up with the scope. I was always engaged and on the lookout for any stuff to collect! The character controller is really nice, though I think the base rolling speed could have been a bit higher. I also pretty much always stayed in rolling form, which made the walk-mode pretty much obsolete. Maybe that could have just been the basic standing animation and you could enter rolling automatically by jumping/moving. The camera clipped in awkward ways on occasion, since it doesn't collide with the environment, but I'd take that over having janky, unpredictable camera movement. Really nice music and sound effect work as well! And the presentation was pretty much perfect. Love the texturing and models. The special collectibles could have used a liiittle extra juice, maybe a fanfare or some cool particle effect when you get 'em! But I'm just nitpicking at this point, super impressive entry!!!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! The camera definitely could have gotten some collision or the meshes gotten a bit cleaner so it's not as bad in some spots, but I ran out of time haha. I'll keep that in mind though post-jam :D
