Your game is awesome! It's such a creative idea. I was a little confused at first, but I'm really glad you included a tutorial. Once I understood how it worked, it became a lot of fun. I also liked that you included "cheats". They made the game easier, and I got to see everything the game had to offer. I also got lost in the maze for quite a while. 😄

cool game i liked the concept behind it it give me the chalice rescue mission vibe from cup head since you're fighting cute ghosts and stuff lol

good game i like it but man the difficulty was no joke and that's coming from souls veteran

anyway good game you did great job with the gameplay loop amazing game :)

I like the concept a lot, really hard but enjoyable!

That was fun! I found it a little hard to see and couln't quickly find a way to increase the brightness of the flashlight (unless it's an upgrade I missed :p) but the game is really solid! Using your flashlight as a weapon is a great little mechanic and it works well!

Retro looking and music with engaging mechanics, fun game! Good job

Thanks for playing!
I admit it turned out a bit too hard for a jam. The brightness of the flashlight is linked to its power, so choosing upgrades that give you power will increase the brightness. However, It is true that i didn't add any brightness configuration, so If you have your computer with low brightness, it can be hard to see...

oh well here I am being a dumb*ss, not realising I could've just increased the brightness of my monitor XD

Is there supposed to be a title screen on startup? I'm not getting one :( Would like to play it though the screenshots look pretty cool
Developer

It sure is supposed to be a title screen... Honestly, i don't even know what is happening there. I assume you have tried multiple times the web build. Have you tried the downloadable file? Are you on windows? If you are not on windows, i could try exporting to another OS...

I'll try the dowloadable file. I'm not on windows but I still am able to run exes

Great work with the art, music, sound effects and core gameplay. As others have mentioned, the pitch-black environment is pretty rough to navigate. A huge improvement would be a darkened but still visible environment, with the ghosts still only appearing through the flashlight.

Very nice overall!

This was a really lovely game. I liked the simple pixel art style, the sprites were charming, and the music/SFX fit the spooky roguelike vibe really well. The theme was used in a creative way, and the modifiers added a lot more variety than I expected.

The difficulty did feel like it jumped pretty hard in some spots, especially when the ghost count ramped up and during the final boss. I also think the lighting could maybe use a little tuning, since the pitch-black areas can feel a bit harsh. Overall though, this was a fun, polished, and charming entry with a really cohesive style.

Thanks for playing!

I do get that a lot about the light (twice), but I made my best... Shaders are hard 😣

Such a lovely game! I liked the sprites you made

Im not so sure about that, but maybe it would be nice the shader was also rendered at a lower resolution texture to match better with the rest of the sprites. Also, maybe add a bit of ambient light instead of pitch black? That im not so sure

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Making the shader be also pixelated would require it to be a lot more complex. I think it is not about just rendering at a lower resolution, since shaders work with the pixels on screen, but I am not a shader expert. It could have made a cool effect, but that went beyond my abilities.

The ambient light could not work, since the ghosts are meant to be hidden. I did thought about adding torches that shine a bit, but that also meant changing the shader.

I really liked coherent visual style and creative approach on the theme!

I really liked this game, I love the simple pixel-art style, I like the music and SFX. I like the roguelike aspect you really pulled it off really well with all the modifiers, which is usually really hard to balance or make.

It kinda reminded me to Luigi's Mansion and idk what else to say, it's fun!

Only feedback is that the difficulty scale does get pretty intense in certain levels, for example (iof i'm not wrong) the third level was full of ghosts compared to the previous levels and the final boss fight dang was that hard, but I enjoyed the experience, love it!

I found this game super enjoyable, the concept and theming is great - fits very well. The characters were all designed well and I found it challenging but fun. Nice one!
