Quite impressive given the platform limitations. Good job!

Your backgrounds hand me seeing curves on straight pixels, the key to this is the remarkable restrictions under which you chose to work and its pretty amazing. I am however terrible at it.

really high scores throughout for me! i feel like i am pretty bad at the game but i can see how it can be really addicting for high scorers haha

dynamic music on a gameboy is an insane delivery, great work on a fun game

Thanks for taking a look!

I love being able to control the speed to gain more points with such a simple mechanic! The game is very fun even though it's pretty difficult I think, I retried at least a couple dozen times. The most I got was 144,000,000 which I thought was decent until I saw  how much you mentioned your high score was in the page description haha! Great music too of course. This was very enjoyable! AWESOME WORK!

Thanks for trying it out, and for the kind words!  144mil is a really solid score; kudos!  That's around where many of my runs come in, but things really explode from there if you survive another loop or two through the song while keeping your combo up; I only had a handful of runs get above 1bil in all the time I spent testing.

P.S. I still haven't beaten round 3 of your game, but I'll keep trying :P

Huge. Absolutely love the music / rhythm elements. Very nicely done, and a very impressive project!

This game is so cool! Making it in GB Studio (I think that's the program) makes it so much better, also it's just a really interesting game on it's own, and the mechanics are fun.

Short. Cute. Replayable. And Gameboy compatible? I think you might be the only one in the whole jam like that!

Super awesome project. Glad I could play it!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words!  I'm glad you enjoyed it!

FTR, I'm definitely not the only GameBoy-compatible game in the jam!  If you're interested in more retro stuff, I know of at least three other games that could be played on GB hardware and are worth checking out:

No waaaaay. Thanks for the recs. :)

super impressive game !! very addicting and replayable, great job!

A great fun little game! Until you learn that is made in assembly!

JUST WHY?!?!?!🤣🤣🤣

Developer

Glad you liked it!  And as for why assembly, I mean, the original Game Boy games back in the 90s were made with assembly, so why not honor that tradition? :)

Submitted

Honor the tradition... and make my life difficult!🫥

Super fun game! Written in RGBDS, you absolute mad man lol

I really enjoyed this little game. definitely took me back to my days with the original GB and GBC.

Thanks for taking a look, and I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

Incredible. This game ran flawlessly on the FPGBC and Gameboy Pocket. The game loop is addicting and the combo system really kept me chasing that dragon. This game being more "pick up and play" will keep me coming back to it time and time again.

I really liked the use of tile swapping for the background and found the overall presentation to be very polished. I could see this being released back in the day as an arcade port of sorts on the original GameBoy DMG.

Your commitment to open source is great to see and this being written in assembly within the time frame is insanity.

Also the music absolutely SLAPS, hope to see more GameBoy games from you in the future!

Developer

Thanks so much for trying it out, and for the kind words!  I'm really glad you enjoyed it.  And super cool that you tried it on actual hardware, too!  I tested it on a bunch of actual handhelds, and IME it's pretty hard to see anything on the DMG because of how much of the screen is dark, but it was playable on the Pocket even though Color is what it was really meant for.  Anyway, thanks again!

Great game with awesome music!

Submitted

Nice game! The fact that it's made in assembly for the GameBoy makes it even better!

Great music, addicting gameplay. Fun. 4032244643 is my score :)

Developer

Thanks again for taking a look here, and thanks for being so thorough with all of the games you played through on stream.  It was great seeing you give everyone the time their games deserve instead of just flipping through them half-heartedly.  And your stream exposed me to a bunch of other great games I probably would have otherwise missed, so thanks for that, too!

Great game. The tune is a jam. I played it just to listen to the music. If you time it right its even better.

Developer

Glad you liked it!  I actually wrote/implemented the music before I made any of the mechanics, so it was definitely a focus.

One of the most impressive game from a technical standpoint! WOW! just incredible

The game looks really cool, I absolutely love this Game Boy art style! The animations are very solid. Even though the gameplay can feel a bit dragged out at times, I still thoroughly enjoyed the game because of its unique aesthetic. I'll be looking forward to seeing more awesome projects from you in the future! 🕹️✨
