The game was pretty enjoyable, it felt almost rhythm esque. The sound effects when you correctly match or kill an enemy were very satisfying. I think an audio track would've done a lot for the atmosphere of the game. I liked the graphics though, it definitely evoked a retro aesthetic which I enjoyed. Also making your own engine for this is amazing. I'm not sure where my score was supposed to be kept track of. There was a number at the top left and then 5 minutes into my run I realized it wasn't changing anymore. Also the spinning felt kind of trivialized when I realized I could just wait until I was colliding with the enemy to shoot them.
Overall though, I enjoyed my time with the game!
Thanks! Yeah its true that an audio track would be nice, but I didn't have enough time. I wanted to make the game as lightweight as possible (for fun) so I made a custom sound format which actually just stores values (attack, decay, volume...) and later gets reconstructed in the engine as an actual sound, but well, I would have had to do something else for musics. About the score, its supposed to show the label "score" next to its amount, I think it might be due to web scaling stuff, it's my first time even making a web build of a game. But yeah, it increases every time you kill an enemy, or freeze-match with a matchpoint, if it really just... Stopped updating, it's another weird issue? And for that last issue, I realized too late that the lasers spawned directly in the player's ship and not in front of it. :/
I like the retro look, cool to see its your own custom engine. I'm a bit lost on how to play it though, I can shoot the green shapes but not the pink in the middle?
The sparks are cool though
Yep, that’s exactly the reason I put a wall of text in the game's description. If you had read it you would have understood.
cool little game, absolutely wicked cool that you built your own engine!!! couple things i would say is that 1. the wheel turn can interrupt a flow state, making you mess up a timing that immediately follows, and that you can just kinda ignore the tilt of the ship because the projectile always spawns inside you, meaning you can just shoot whenever you line up with the enemy.
Thanks! And yeah I did notice those two issues but well... It was already too late.
you nailed it dude. despite only having shapes as graphics the game looks really nice, AND it is EXTREMELY polished, AND its a custom from scratch engine?? just awesome.
