One of the last games I get to rate for this jam. I'm glad I got this recommended I though I wouldn't like ace attorney after seeing some gameplay online but this was great! Evidence you had to choose was clear and the story was funny. The camera movement + voice lines are perfect. Overall a great game.

I like to do some feedback for the reviews I give but since I've never played a game like this I wouldn't know what to change or fix to make it better. This was a very good experience. Good job!

THAT WAS SO GOOD!! You're prolly gonna get sued by ace attorney though lol!

Interesting story, good animations, very funny dialog!

I initially felt like trying to root for someone you know did it would be kind of a hard sell but it's actually very fun spinning the narative! Clever use of the theme as well!!

Great job! I might end up actually trying out ace attorney for real cuz of this!

This is great. I have never played Ace Attorney but I would like to play it, and after playing your game, I’d like to play Ace Attorney even more. I would love to see you finish up the game - everything works out but the end could be edited to make it feel like it’s its own thing. It would be a good ending without the mention that it’s the end of the jam.

The only other cons, besides the natural minimalistic presentation of the game, is the animation when we move from one character to another. It made me a bit dizzy and uncomfortable in my eyes, so I would prefer if there were an option to disable this animation or make it smoother and less flashy in some other way.

Aside from that, I had a really good time and I was eager to play more, in a good way. So I have to ask if would you be interested in continuing to develop the game?

I would love to see more of it, or see other similar types of games from you, expanding on your great writing and whodunnit creation skills.

What’s more, I’d love to see you make this game blind-accessible. There’s a recent mod for Ace Attorney that lets blind gamers play it. Check it out here: Blind Gamer Playing Ace Attorney. It doesn’t relay every single visual information that it should, but it’s playable and fun. I think if you’d like, you could definitely make your spinoff, make it blind-accessible by default, and let a whole new market enjoy it. Because what you just have to do is mostly make the game keyboard-navigable (not just clicking with the mouse), and have the text information be sent to a screen reader (which you can do with unity’s screen reader support guide), and you have about 95% of the game accessible for blind players as well. By the way, a screen reader is a software that blind people use that converts textual data and strings (coded in the game, website, program) into speech (or even braille).

And with that, you can provide the basic screen reader support and then fully finish the game or continue making it, or making other visual novels and whodunnits like this.

So even if making it “ace attorney” might not be legal (I don’t know how that would work), you could still make a heavily inspired game or just something else but I think you could do it and I would love to play it.

And seriously - if you’re interested in what I’m suggesting, I’m part of this game jam community that makes “Games for Blind Gamers”. And we’re even having a chill jam this July, called Making Games Accessible, where you can work on old projects to improve them (and new projects are also welcome). It would be a good opportunity for you to test this, and we have many blind playtesters over there who would love to play this, I am 100% sure. I would love to see you there, and likewise I’m happy to help in any way I can and answer any questions.

Very, VERY fun game, really great take on the theme (and one of the ideas I threw out there but knew I'd not be able to pull off for now). The character designs are charming and not outstanding: you must be one of those who're way better at animating / dynamic visuals than drawing, with lots of self-conscious laziness with those fourth wall breaks. Meta humour was golden at least for me even though sometimes it could break immersion, cross-examination statements to find whatever BS I could use to defend the obvious culprit was really really fun. It's hard to find anything that annoys me, though you could've added a system where if you fumble over your words too many times, you lose the game (here the player can just brute-force through evidence until it works). Here you're relying on the good faith of players who will try to solve the cases for real instead of clicking through every option, and luckily I'm one of those so this was more of a nitpick. Really hilarious comment about the jam near the end, and I'd totally see myself coming back to this game if it ever gets expanded on after the jam.

I might be biased, since I have been an Ace Attorney fan for over 10 years now, but this was an incredibly fun game, one of my favorites for sure.  Really makes me want to see what other cool fan cases there are now after not checking the fan sites in a long time.

Anyway, the game itself id very charming and witty.  Maybe it's a bit too topical/meta at points, but the writing largely stands on its own and isn't solely spoofing Ace Attorney.  I'd imagine it was pretty hard to make this engine in a week, too, so hats off to you for making this all from the ground up.  Even if there aren't crazy animations, the characters are still plenty expressive, and the camera work, sound effects, and music all add to the experience.  I would totally play more Harold Fathom!

I never played the Ace Attorney games so I didn't know what to expect or how exactly it should be played, but I can say that  I really enjoyed it! First time I played it I was exhausted and I couldn't even get through the first opening statement, but I came back the next day and it was actually pretty intuitive. The dialogue was funny and I loved the comments about the lack of animation! And last but not least, very serious game and I respect that!

This may have been the funniest game I've played this jam, oh my god. I also enjoyed all of the actual puzzles, and it's a funny "spin" on the whole Ace Attorney angle to make it so you're trying to defend an actual murderer. The dialogue was also top notch, and the names were as delightful as they are in the series this is taking inspiration from. Actual peak, amazing job

this is so good I wish it was longer, amazing ace attorney parody !!!!

i remember seeing screenshots of this game on the discord sever, this is such a good spin on the theme (no pun intended) and the art and animation is really great! if only you had more time to work on it and let the story go for longer but i digress, good work!

It could have gone longer, but the jam was wrapping up

I'm really glad I played this one. The writing was great, and the animation style was fun too.

Interesting game, though maybe it's just me but a little after the cross examination, the game breaks and I can't continue? Otherwise, the art is cool and the game was fun

Developer

I just noticed that in playtesting. I know exactly what the issue is and im patching it right now.

Developer

Fix is implemented! If you wanna try finishing the game, you can fast forward to where you were by holding S.

the play button doesnt work for me even in fullscreen

Developer

That's cause I'm a chud who coded the main menu in 5 minutes and didn't test UI scaling.

Should be fixed now
