In our brainstorming session someone mentioned how cool if the game is about a lighthouse! I am glad I saw this congrats! music and visual art are super fitting.

I really loved the idea! It's probably the most creative game I've played during this jam. I didn't watch the tutorial, but the mechanics seemed clear to me as I played. I just have one question: if I highlight a ship, can all the others see it, or do I have to highlight all the ships to make them visible to each other?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Any ship can see a highlighted ship.

More specifically, each ship has 5 raycasts that define its line of sight, those raycasts only collide with lit objects, and ships steer away from the nearest object their raycasts see.

Thanks for playing!

What a cool & unique concept for a game, I love the idea of being the guiding light for ships to pass safely. The visuals are really nice (I like how you rendered the water and especially the water being lit by the lighthouse) and the music swelling when there's a disaster really sells the panic you're instilling onto the player.

I kinda wish the pathfinding was a bit more predictable at times, often I would light a handful of ships and they would absolutely crash into eachother regardless of how much time they had to react. I'm not sure if this exists already, but I feel like each ship should keep some kind of memory of each ship that was recently lit that way you can manage the more chaotic scenarios a bit longer.

I also had no clue what to do with the black-sail ships, haha.

Regardless this earned some high ratings IMO, great job!

Genious from the game design perspective. I love the "no, but" approach of crashes being a separate machanic instead of a game over and the pirates add a threat that doesn't let you illuminate everything all the time. My only gripe is that it gets a bit monotonous, which is understandable for a jam game. Annd this one is so polished that it's clear where the time went so the following it's more of "if that was a full game that's what I'd want out of it": I wish there were multiple levels with different layouts and ship appearance patterns.

P.S. Hell yeah lighthouse gang

Fun game. The visuals ara nice and have a great atmosphere
The game has a good balance of calm and chaotic moments.
I think that an improvement for the game is the illuminated pirate's ships will be avoided for regular ships, because sometimes I didn't want to illuminate a zone to prevent pirates wrecked the other ships.
I was able to do 53 points :)

Awesome and creative concept, I enjoyed the game. It was satisfying to watch the ship AI move away from obstacles and each other.

The visuals look amazing! The water looks really good and I have no idea how did you got the ships AI to work like that but honestly great work!

Aye this was such a fun little game, some games I have seen in this jam are great for a one time play but this is amongst those which has potential to be something much bigger. I really enjoyed it and loved how it was pretty chill. The graphics were pretty great and I adore a good lighthouse aesthetic. Only feedback I can offer is that personally I thought that letting the ships sink ( or begin to sink ) had little to no consequences since the time to rescue them was quite enough and your little ship could save them quickly. However it was a really fun game! I look forward to seeing you work on it if you ever will

Fantastic execution, the graphics are great and the gameplay feels impressively responsive, considering the amount of hazards

Submitted(+1)

Great game. Think you did the ships' pathfinding pretty well!

One of the best I've seen so far—it's really beautiful, and the music went really well with it. The gameplay is really interesting and frantic as it progresses, and the idea of the small boat was really interesting—congratulations.

Great concept, not too punishing, easy to grok immediately. Would be mint with a progression system + some upgrades in my opinion. My hat goes off to the rescue boat workers. Those guys were tireless

Submitted(+1)

This got real chaotic REAL fast lmao. My boats could not avoid the pirate ships for the life of me, but it's okay because the handy dandy rescue crew would zip by so quickly. I think I got more points by saving crashed boats than actually guiding them. Guess I'm fired from my lighthouse job. Really funny and I had fun playing! Great music and ocean sounds too!

Delightful game. The control are very intuitive, and I imagine the underlying code to make the ships dodge illuminated objects is impressive. I think I agree with Nanoctopi on the illuminated pirate ships bit, but regardless great game jam game, feels like you managed your scope very well.

Very good game! The graphics are really good and the pathfinding is really well done, I wish regular ships would escape from illuminated pirate ships, like you found them and now they try to avoid it. Sometimes the shootout is inevitable because of this. Besides that I loved it, congrats!

That's such a good idea, and it wouldn't have been too hard to implement either. I wish I'd thought of that.

very cool concept, realisation is great and understandable within a minute, had fun playing, only critics is music and sfx, too loud and should change each other instead of overlapping

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback!

Sorry to hear about the volume issues, there are a few sliders to adjust that if it's too much of an issue, but you're probably right that the game should've started a bit more quiet.

Nice job, this is a fun little game. I actually played first when you posted in the community section before submissions closed, it was already good but you’ve done a nice job with updates since then too. I got up to 75 ships guided safely before I couldn’t save a crew.

I was proud of my 54 and someone got 125? That is nuts. After some point it gets really crazy, but I feel like it is thefun part!

Insane work with the 3D models, and the musical que's when lighting stuff up something else. It looks cozy, but get real hectic real soon.

I really appreciated the premise — instead of having to hit or escape something, your job is to assist others on their journey. Unexpected, fresh, and clever. The lighting on the water and the audio cues when you point at ships are such nice touches too. The slow-paced traffic management gives way to real triage chaos once the ships pile up, great escalation curve for a jam game. And yes, all that 3D modeling in a week is impressive!
