Very interesting idea, I liked all the different type of guns and enemies! It was a bit hard for me to figure out how to turn the wheel properly that all of my guns are useful, and would have loved some upgrades on my already bought guns (but maybe I just didn't make it far enough in the game :D). Well done!
Original and addictive! Loved the concept
I personally think that the overall concept is cool and fits the theme well. Also the are style is corherent and gives me enjoyable retro vibes. Howver, there are some game design decision I don't fully understand. What is good is that there are a lot of different guns, with different properties, however, before picking a gun it is difficult to tell if it will be of use or not. E.g. when picking the freezing gun: I though: this will be great to have cc, so that I can hit more enemies with the regular gun. Turned out: I never used the ice gun, because its fire-rate makes it unsuable. Also some of the weapons seem to be more or less identical, wrt. their usecase. E.g. the caltrop launche and the molotov gun, essentially do the same thing. One of them does damage on collision and the other one probably per tick, but since, as it seemed, there are no stacks (like 5% dot per fire stack, etc.), those two weapons are identical. So here the weapons could be a bit more orthogonal.
The other thing I did not really understand is what the point of the wheel is. So don't get me wrong: the wheel is cool, but there is only one side enemies are attacking from: so I felt like a solid selection of three weapons, essentially solves any issue, therefore no spinning of the wheel was actually needed. Here you could have solved the "issue" by making gun cooldowns explicit to the player letting the player spin the wheel with the right time, in order to really utlze 100% of it or the map is build in a way that you need to use several sides at once.
Please don't interprete this criticism to harshly, I really think you did a great job as a solo dev and really produced something you can be proud of.
I think it’s a fantastic masterpiece! I really liked how you use the spin move to switch weapons. The overall pixel art—from the weapons to the monsters—is really well done!
Interesting use of the theme. The pixel art is nice and the sound effects work well here.
An indicator for the next time a gun fires would go a long way here since it's pretty hard to rely on your weapon when you don't know when it fires next. More variety in weapons would make a great improvement too.
Good work overall!
I see the vision! Keep making games! I love the simple pixel work!
I like the mechanics and the concept of the game! I did find it a bit hard to predict which gun is gonna fire, and also the enemies kinda blend in with the background (only a little bit though), which causes them to be hard to see some of the times.
The concept is great, the sense of impact is pretty good too, it would be even better with more wheels.
Such a great game, i really like the concept, the core mechanic is a interesting and well implemented way to fit the theme of the jam.
the wheel spining mechanic is good, the game feel is very good
The concept and artstyle is super nice! I think it's very clever with the different kinds of weapons as well. Even though the weapons kind of fired in a circle, I couldnt help but feel like the weapons in the back of the wheel were pretty useless compared to the ones you have in front. I tried making it work by spinning fast, but I still kept shooting molotovs and stuff into my own base haha. Are there any weapons that work from the back of the wheel? Maybe that could make it so that that position feels more usefull to have a weapon in, because right now I felt like only the front 3-4 slots actually did something. Maybe the back could have slots for upgrade things you put in instead, increasing fire-rate or strength :O Just some thoughts, just some thoughts. Crazy how you managed to get together such a good game in so short time tho! Good job!
A creative take on the theme, and I really liked the tower defense gameplay. The graphics reminded me of Reventure, which was a nice touch. The only issue I noticed was that the game looks a bit odd in the browser if you don't play in fullscreen. I think that's something you can adjust in the page settings on itch.io. Other than that, it turned out really well. Great job!
Pretty fun defense game! There’s a lot of weapon variety too. Spinning the wheel to make use of different weapons is an interesting way to fit the theme. Nice job!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Very fun game! I couldn't find any issues with it at all. Overall great experience!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Fun game! I enjoyed both the variety in enemies and weapon selection to put on the wheel. I did encounter a bug where I couldn't equip a weapon I just got, it was the shockwave gun. I tried moving a minigun to make room for the shockwave gun but then I couldn't pick it up and it wouldn't show me its stats anymore. Still, great work!
Yeah I've found that as an issue, not great. Glad you enjoyed it despite that though!
Great game, simple and satisfying mechanic
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
I neeeed moooooreeee!!. Verry fun game.
Well, depending on how things go and if we think of a meaningful way to expand the game, you may well get more! But we will just have to see. Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesomeee! This is a cool and creative idea man. I definitely think it could benefit from some more different upgrades and builds, but this is a very enjoyable and well made game already!
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! I definitely do agree that more weapons and options would massively improve the game, but really we simply didn't have time.
So good, I've died wave 14 :/
Some suggestions :
- Adding more weapons or upgrade bc it doesn't feel like you can really upgrade after 6 or 7 waves.
- Show when the guns are about to fire
- Allow wheel rotation on keyboard A/D
Overall one of my favorites !
Well done, it seems you made it quite far then! Yeah, I did also find that there weren't many options for weapons later on, but at that point I was very much on borrowed time. Same goes for adding firing time indicators too.
I did at first intend for the wheel to be controlled by the mouse wheel and/or A/D, but in the end I decided that the grabbing felt better, as well as being mobile friendly too. However, if we do expand upon the game, I will be sure to add it as an option.
Thank you for all the feedback, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I love the artstyle and the concept, but it didn't feel great to not be able to use most of my weapons at all and no control over *when* they fire
Yeah that's fair. What would you suggest to improve those aspects? Glad you liked the art and concept though!
