At first I was struggling to get the bar up because everything was sticking to my cursor. I spam opened all the programs but could never get system load past 50%. Then I realized I was thinking too hard and simply used the file search query repeatedly. Beat it immediately using the file search spam method, although I can't help but wonder if that was the intended solution.

Was it?

Don't you just love it when Microsoft holds your computer hostage? xD But seriously a really fun idea! I tried really hard to finish it, but I couldn't get the windows to stop sticking to the mouse and it was stopping me from clicking on the things I was trying to click on x,D Other then that, a job well done!

I first played the web version, and it was lagging my browser. Then I downloaded the game, and it crashed at one point. I don't know why lol, but I didn't actually think that was a bad thing (though you might want to take a look at it). It kind of made the game more immersive. That said, I did manage to crash the computer (in the game, not mine!!). I thought I had found a way to cheese it by copying and pasting random text into the .txt, but it didn't actually work (which is great). Loved the experience!! Amazingly chaotic game!

Cool idea! Some low hanging fruit to improve but i think its a good idea.

Same feedback as everyone else! I really liked the idea, and I was able to crash the system after figuring out a strategy, but a lot of the difficulty felt unintended, as it came from what I assume are bugs (e.g. windows sticking to my mouse after I let go, text going into the wrong widow). I enjoyed that it ends with a score of how long it took me to crash the system, to encourage another try (1 minute 1 second)!

It was a bit too hard, the different actions ended too fast to have enough stuff running at the same time, even when spamming text it was difficult to make it shut down.

Submitted

Also at least in web when I spammed too much text my own browser got stuck.

Submitted

Same! I crashed the game, but not in the way I think it was intended haha

The windows felt really sticky to control, but I liked the idea. I think the goal could be communicated a little better, but that's not easy in a game jam.

i dont really get how it ties in with the theme but it was fun regardless

+1 request for that full screen mode ;)

Submitted

My main feedback is just that I had a bug where sometimes the window would stick to the cursors position, and a fullscreen button would be really nice. I couldn't figure out how to beat it, but the idea is and graphics were well executed, and I had a good time!

This seems like a cool concept, but I had to zoom my browser in 175% to see anything. I couldn't really figure out how to solve it... so the puzzle aspect probably just isn't for me.

If you continue to tinker with this one, it would be helpful to have a much larger gameplay screen to read and interact with. Neat concept though!

Thank you for the preview of Windows 12!

I thought it was an interesting concept.  All my criticism has already been addressed in other comments, most notably the lack of a full-screen mode.  This especially hurt this experience because the CRT filter made it hard to read everything in the smaller size (and I usually LOVE the CRT effect).  I got around this partially by sizing up the browser Window.

Fever dream indeed. Feels good to crash the system on purpose (instead of how I usually do it)

I really liked this game. The only issue I had was that the game was very small and my mouse kept desyncing or something that caused windows to get stuck and not let go. Other than that, the idea was very cool, the visuals were also really great and I enjoyed it quite much. Great game!

oh hey i remember you posting this in discord! funny how similar our games are. anyways very neat game with incredible visuals (the crt effect does make the text very hard to read tho) was a bit confused on what to do at first but ended up getting it after reading the description

Cool concept! I was able to beat it quite fast by searching for a file and just spamming enter in the query. Idk if it it intended. Good Submission!

Creative concept, I couldn't read any of the text though, it was too small. I like short and sweet experiences, which this game was.  My mouse positioning was getting funky because I have an ultra wide monitor, but I won't hold that against you or the game. Overall I liked it.

Developer

Thanks for playing regardless! And I did this in my last jam where the resolution was only right on the monitor I was developing on 😭

A fun little puzzle sort of game, just a shame it was so short! I would've liked to have a larger screen, if not fullscreen, (I had to zoom in quite far) and the CRT effect was a bit strong. Otherwise, great job!

Metagame cogs 11/125

Ooo working your way through the metagame I see - good luck!

I love the concept, really cool execution. I will say though it not being fullscreen hurt the experience. I was squinting at my screen trying to make stuff out lol. also idk if this is intentional or not but all the windows are confined to the upper left which felt a little odd. a good challenge but nothing notepad spam couldn't overcome lol.

Developer

Ah yes, I've made the mistake in previous jams of not making my game resolution agnostic - I really should have learnt my lesson this time haha. And indeed, I can add as many extra windows as I like, but keyboard mashing will always end up being the meta!

Funny concept! I didnt see much of what Clippy was saying because I was trying to overrun the system, would have been fun if he was constantly popping back on top and trying to interrupt me. It said I crashed the system and Game Over, but I'm not sure if that means I won or lost :D

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! Yes, maybe I could have made him more pushy and invasive! And don’t worry, crashing the system was the goal.
Edit: I remembered we're still in the 24 hour period where I can upload adjustments, so I made Clippy a lot more annoying now!
