The drawing mechanic is really cool, and could be expanded on! I feel like the draw for a lot of bullet heaven games is that the player constantly feels like they are getting stronger, so it would be fun if the power ups in this were more substantial. Nicely done.

Developer

I really appreciate it! I do agree that the powerups could have been implemented in a way to make them more inline with what you're saying. It's worth looking into :

Developer

Yea - there was a lot more that we wanted to do with the powerups, but time constraints limited the implementation. Currently there are 4 different rarity gun augments: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary (White, Green, Blue, Orange-red, respectively). The legendary ones are quite powerful if you can get lucky enough!

I really like the gimmick of drawing a circle to reload. There's definitely a lot of potential in a drawing mechanic. Cool stuff

Developer

Thank you :) We thought so too! Matt is the mastermind behind it, I was pretty shocked when I saw it at first. It takes some getting used to but I find it pretty smooth now. Though we've probably played the game more than anybody haha.

Great game, one of my favourites so far. Music is incredible, and game is high quality in general.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you very much. We put a lot of love into it. It was my first time making 2D assets for a game, and my first game jam submitted like this. I had a lot of fun :) I'll check out Socky!!!

Developer

Truly glad you enjoyed and thank you for the kind words!

Interesting idea! One change I would for sure make is to make the projectiles larger and faster. I pretty often see people make projectiles tiny and fairly slow moving, when the opposite feels so much better. Even if they were the same size, if they moved faster it would feel a lot better. You don't have to worry about it making the game too easy, as you can adjust the difficulty of the enemies to compensate (these are all ideas I've internalized from JW's The Art of Screenshake talk, I would definitely recommend watching that if you haven't!) Otherwise, I really like the visuals, and the music and sound is really nice too. Spinning to reload reminds me of Synthetik for some reason, even though that game doesn't use any sort of motion to reload. It's pretty fun! I like it :)

Thank you for the feedback! I will definitely check out that talk.

Really enjoyed it, nice work! The cyberpunk theme, the music, the feeling of dread when a horde of drones is closing in on you - good stuff! Best time was 150.2 seconds :D

Developer

I must have forgot to reply, but thanks for playing! Peels n' spills is a blast :) I think 150 is higher than I've gotten ;-;

I did the cyberpunk vibe and love the reload mechanic! At one point the screen went super red and I couldn't see anything I think that was like I took damage?

Developer

Hello, and thank you! Yes that was the gameover screen. You have to press escape to go back to the menu and press play again, I am prioritizing working on the games page to make this stuff more clear, because its not right now lol! If you are in fullscreen mode escape will minimize the game for you, then you'll have to press it again.

Hey i think you uploaded your game to private because Im getting an error trying to access it

Developer

Hello, thank you for the feedback! This is my first time uploading on itch. It should be public now! We are currently fixing bugs and working on the itch page, so please take the current state with a grain of salt. We should have a final build ready for the jam soon.
