I found it kinda difficult to tell what direction the legs were facing, even with the little icon on the HUD. It’s easy to get lost when you’re engaged in combat and trying to move around cover to hit the enemy.
The mechanic for moving the mech body up and down seemed really cool but it felt totally unnecessary given the level design and the one enemy encounter. I’d like to see how this mechanic could be put to use in a more fleshed out game. It seems like it could be a good way to make the gameplay more tactical and open up unique combat scenarios
You nailed the graphics and sound effects. It felt extremely immersive to just stomp around in the gloomy, albeit empty world.
Overall a very solid entry, but lacking in gameplay content to take advantage of the mechanics.
I'm so excited for this revisit to Sentinel!
your previous submission to MechJam III was my favorite from that jam.
I just compared the two and had forgotten that the first one was Unity instead of Godot. You do a great job with the immersive UI and really feeling I am in the cockpit.
Of course I would love some of the additional polish found in the previous installment, and I'm so interested in what you are planning to include for a heat management system.
I would love to see a more full featured vertical slice of this!
1v1 battles? Missions? Campaign with conserved resources?
Super nice to have a video to introduce the entry; however the game doesn't install through itch io app. It's a shame, it is the most accessible way to test a lot of exes!
The movement is original and very interesting, I liked the brake key, the turret move; and the cone you can reach with your cannon. This kind of looks reminds me of mechwarrior 2 on pc, which I only know from magazine pictures from back in the day ^^ Combat was very satisfying, but I couldn't get more than 1 opponent, is this normal in the jam version?
This approach of the gameplay is interesting (you see wide, but you can not necessarily fire at your opponent). It is kinda realistic. I am curious how to make it an addictive gameplay mechanic (not being able to dodge).
Nice work! You really nailed the sense of weight in the movement, and experiencing everything from the cockpit was a great touch. The HUD is very polished and immersive, and it really sold the fps mech. I can definitely see this leading to some really engaging tactical gameplay, especially with more enemies and encounters added. Great job!
freakin cool. the controls and cockpit strike me as really realistic for this type of mech. would love to play 1v1 against another real player, that would be a blast.
Graphically its a bit barebones but I can see the vision. For now I blasted the other guy (strafing OP but tough) and that's all there really is to do afaik.
I did manage to figure out a way to 'cheat' which I assume is a bug-- while firing the vulcans if you hit 2 to switch guns the vulcan continues firing. so you can fire both guns at once. maybe that's intentional?
would love to see a version of this with additional content!
Procedural walk cycle is insane. I love the realistic HUD reminds me of some old mech warrior games. This could make for a great multiplayer shooter
Awesome and immersive 1st person mech sim !
The whole cockpit view and interface that goes along with it is super well made, you’ve really nailed the feel of the controls to have your mech be like heavy military vehicles, you even implemented the ability to torso twist to do a mechwarrior style circle strafe.
The walking sound is also really well made you truly feel like you’re in the seat of that walker.
my only gripe is the lack of any radar / minimap system, cause i’ve encountered the enemy, shot him and got shot back, we both survived, he escaped and i couldn’t manage ti find him again while wandering all over the map :(
Despite that i’ve had a good time, your core gameplay is solid and it would be cool to see you add a proper map and a few combat mission scenarios to add up to this.
Good job :)
Good walking mechanics, I'm pretty sure I heard a toyota corolla handbrake when space pressed :) . As previously said, could be easily made better by making more enemies.
my first impression's that you made something really immersive, the snow, the shaders, the interface, the sounds and stuff.. really made a great job on that's it's satisfying in itself. Otherwise I've no idea if there's like.. just one ennemy ? but I defeat one and then passed time wanderring on the map. you could copy many of them.
unfortunately yes it’s just one enemy for the moment; I spent so long getting a procedural walk cycle up and running that I didn’t have time to add any more 😂 oops. I do plan on adding more though, so if you like what’s here then expect more of it in the near future!
