Developer Feedback Questions
Thanks for trying out my game :)
If you can, I would love your opinions on these questions:
1. How smooth does the movement of the ball and overall game physics feel?
2. How is the music and sounds in the game?
3. How can I improve the puzzles in the game to make it more fun and challenging?
Comments
Hello Vaibhav
I tried your game and here are my thoughts.
How smooth does the movement of the ball and overall game physics feel?
The physics felt slightly odd with how high jumpy could jump. I realized that its in his name, but a little animation could go a long way to make him feel like he is generating his momentum and that its not coming from thin air. Apart from that platformer physics was fine, you could jump off ledges and stuff. Good stuff.
How is the music and sounds in the game?
Sounds are fine. Coin collecting sound was very satisfying. Jump sound was alright. Maybe different balls should have different jump and roll sounds? Music was good but very repetitive. It fit the theme very well, but you could spice it up by changing a few tracks
How can I improve the puzzles in the game to make it more fun and challenging?
Have more puzzles less parkour. I played 3 levels and I got stuck at that parkour thing in level 3. I know I have to double jump off the ledge but missing the jump is absurdly punishing. Almost gave me Getting over it ptsd which is something I was not expecting. That can be ok if that’s what you are going for. Anyway, based on the artstyle sounds and the switching balls mechanics I assumed there would be more puzzles that would utilize this. In the first three levels we have parkour which is of much higher level than you would expect for initial stages and practically no puzzles. We always know exactly what ball you have to switch into to clear some parkour thing.
Positives
- A very optimistic vibe. Nice art and music.
- Nice challenges throughout.
Other observations
- Water ball doesn’t swim in water but gets infinite jumps. I found that a bit odd.
- I would like more puzzles that would require the player to think about which ball to switch into to do something. You could be going for a more skill intensive game, and in that case ignore this advice.
- I noticed a weird bug in level 3 where the ravine at the start seems to have water, but using even the water balls ends in insta-death. (when the map zooms out you can see the blue.)
- W is not jump, don’t know why.
- Silver Spikes blend in with the bg too much. Maybe higher contrast?
Overall, I enjoyed playing the game! Good job!
Hi, thank you for trying the game and giving this much time to give me a well made feedback on my questions!
Yes, I was feeling the jumping physics is a bit odd, that is why I asked to confirm myself, thank you for letting me know! By the way, I have made so the ball doesn't fall at the same speed in the water by reducing its gravity so it would feel like floating, but still it would sink if you won't jump, but yeah I will modify it so it falls less rapidly to keep it more natural!
Yeah, I will most probably add more soundtracks to make the music feel less repetetive!
Regarding puzzles and parkour, I want to keep a balanced approach on both things! (I didn't realize I made something that could give someone "Getting Over It" PTSD lol) But yeah, I am aware the puzzles need to be better, I will hopefully be adding better puzzles in further levels!
And regarding the spikes, yes I will fix it next update for sure!
Regarding the bug, there's a bug where if you are in water with another ball and quickly switch it to a different one, it would still take damage (and same for lava and spike), maybe you switched when you already entered the water? I will try to fix this bug next time too!
Anyway thanks again for all the feedbacks! =)
Hey, this is an interesting platformer, all the animations and sounds all work together. Just a couple things I notice. There's too much text straight away after loading, I think if you want a story to give a reason for being the balls and platforming, it should be spread out through the game or make it really short. Just so the player can get straight to the fun bits. Not sure about having a menu to switch between balls, I think it would flow better if you just switch between the balls with the C button. Animation wise, have some stretching on the balls jumping could sell the ballness, and maybe have more of a size difference between the balls could sell their different abilities. Cool game.
Hi, thanks a lot for trying out the game and giving your feedbacks! :)
Feedbacks noted, by the way, what do you mean by selling the ballness? Also yeah I can create different sized balls to maybe make it so you can only pass certain areas with a certain ball, that is a nice idea!
Also by stretching you mean giving some kind of bounce effect in the ball right?
Anyway thanks again for trying the game and giving your feedbacks! =)
This is a fun concept for a platformer, I'd be interested to see what you can do with this. I couldn't get past the second level, couldn't find splashy anywhere. Physics felt okay, maybe a little rigid, it's hard to describe but didn't feel super smooth. SFX are okay, the song was a little repetitive but not bad. I thought the puzzles were okay, I think the potential for puzzles with the multiple different characters could be great. Finally the spikes were hard to see, I kept running into them without even seeing them, they could use a little more visual clarity.
