I really like the vibe of this game! The art style, music and sounds really bring it together into a fun and cohesive experience! The combat is super cool and is really well executed. Though I feel like my character missed their attacks a lot, but that's just how the dice rolls. I was very confused at first how I was supposed to access my potions to restore HP and MP, I thought it was a bug that there was no item menu, but then I finally read the text and noticed it said it was being applied right then and there, which made WAY more sense.

Very nice work with this one, you did a great job with it!

Loved this game, the custom combat system is simple yet effective! The art is also amazing and reminded me of Faith!

I loved this game! It made me nostalgic for an era I wasn't really part of. Despite going straight to consoles with the Atari 2600 and the Master System, this reminded me of the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. It felt familiar, especially the sound effects, despite me never having played those machines. Engaging little gameplay loop that proves less is more. Shame the sub-dungeon couldn't be completed in the build I played, but it's a game jam, there are going to be bugs / oversights somewhere.

This is an awesome and unique game I really like it! It takes me back to childhood with the NES graphics and chiptunes sounds. The game is a bit difficult to start, but once you've gained some stats the combat becomes really addicting. I have two of the main gems so will go for the last one later. Also it would be nice if I knew how many of the small red jewels I had collected in a status screen or HUD somewhere. I know you are going to fix all the small bugs after the jam later and this will be wonderful. Sweet game, I love it~

Developer

Hey Abadon Thanks for taking the time to play and leave suggestions.

I will add a HUD to the list of improvements to make post jam :)

Having played the browser and download version which are quite buggy, the hotfix version sorts out the encounter rate so this is the one to play, y'all.

This game looks incredible and has a proper old skool vibe. I love the transiton-less combat system! Makes a refreshing change from the default one that appears in every other game. I did find some bugs. There is an enemy that looks like centipede that blinks when in combat so I am not sure if that is intentional or not. I also can't find the route in the cave section. I get the feeling you meant to make the water tiles passable but they are currently impassable.

Even though it has an open world feel, I do love the sense of progress in the game and how the events move forward depending on what the player does - that was handled very nicely. I'll for sure come back after the jam and play a completed version. Once the bugs are sorted this game is gonna be epic! What you have made here is great but the potential is still massive too. Great work, guys!

Thank you for playing Yeti!

We were aware of the bug with the Centipede dude. A similar thing happens with one other monster you can encounter. We recognised this almost immediately after the submission window closed and alas we could not fix it. This was purely the result of forgetting to swap out a placeholder character sheet.

The blocked route in the cave section was not something i was aware of. can you confirm which cave you are referring to. Was it the one with the Square Rooms or the one with an abundance of blue mushrooms? I will look at this almost immediately as this could make the game unbeatable.  FIXED THIS NOW. You were totally right. Thank you for pointing that out. 1 impassable tile placed blocked the route to the dungeon.

Thanks again for taking the time to play and leave feedback.

that intro was so beautidful, especially the music. the combat system is something i've never seen before, and the whole nes-ish style is really polished, this was great!

Developer

Thank for Playing IC and for your kind words.

I spent more time than i perhaps should of on getting that right on the intro so its very satisfying to see compliments for this.

Apologies for any bugs you might have run into.

I really like the idea of the combat system here--very much invokes bump combat like in a classic roguelike while still being its own thing. That encounter rate is rough, though. I'm hoping you have some time to keep working on this one, though; there's definitely something special here under some needed balance. EDIT: I know you're aware of the encounter rate bug (and I'm pretty sure my submission has a similar issue lol)

Developer

Hey Gobbo, Thanks for playing and please accept my apologies for the encounter rate.  Totally my fault. I hope what you managed to play was enjoyable until the monsters swarmed :)

We tried to make a retro vibed Transitionless battle system. A bit like Chrono triggers 'on field' battles but as though they were made for a NES era game.

I'm looking forward to the bugfixed version!

the menu causes soft lock, don't open it. Enemy encounters are way too frequent imo

Developer

Hey SIDDqlo.
Thank you for playing.
The enemy encounters thing is an error. We had the encounter rate up for testing and forgot to turn it back before we published.
There is a version that fixes this in the devlog and on the Itch.io page.

The Menu bug was unknown to us - we will have to fix that in a future version. Thanks for pointing it out.

the caves of qud of this jam, i like the idea, the combat is very original and fun. same as the healing mechanic by donating to the shrine
however i think the combat encounter are too common, cant even walk 5 step without fighting 3 enemies xd
and i encountered a problem with the escape menu, i had it on a loop that i couldnt go back to the game, the one with "quit etc)
but it was enjoyable still

Thanks for playing and giving comment Twomoon.

The combat encounters are indeed too common. Thats my bad! I turned the encounter rate up to test something in battles and didnt turn it back down before publishing. This is what i get for leaving it till the final hour to submit. A lesson learned.

Below is a link to a version with a much less painful encounter rate.

We will look at the menu bug also - thanks  for your feedback
