This was really fun! The farthest I got was level 6, after several runs. The gameplay is really fun, and there's a nice bit of strategy involved in terms of what particle to hit in order to kick off the reaction, and then if multiple particles are lit up, which ones to go for to keep it going. I also really like the various upgrades; they are really well-chosen. I always went for additional chance to spawn particles, and anything to increase speed/duration.
I agree with some of the other comments that sometimes the RNG feels a little bit unforgiving; you can set up the perfect shot right into the middle of a big group, and it can still get unlucky and shoot the particles elsewhere. But I like how easy and fast it is to start another run, so that it doesn't feel punishing even when you get bad luck. And I can imagine that if you're lucky to end up with the upgrade that gives you another swing of the fission sword, then that really opens things up (I was never able to buy that upgrade in my runs, though).
I like the art style quite a lot, and swinging the sword feels good, in no small part because of the nice animation you have going along with it. The sound effects are good, but I do feel like some music would help to build the atmosphere.
All-in-all, this was a great little game. Super fun. Nice work!
Yeah I probably could have increased the amount of particles that are released from the start or made them be produced from an atom in a more predictable pattern to decrease the RNG aspects. Nevertheless, I appreciate you playing and it seems like you figured out some decent strategy which is good to hear!
It was too hard to play at first, since particles are rng, but once you start pushing the atoms into others then it becomes beatable. Makes you always strike the ones who are standing near the cluster of atoms, so they'd explode in the middle of that cluster, making everyone react.
Definitely an unique idea! Consider adding music and sword slash sound, then it'd be great!
Good to know you figured out some strategy behind it! Also it was my first time adding sound to a game, so I think I rushed it quite a bit towards the end, so I can totally agree it was kind of lacking in the sound department.
Great game and a really unique idea. The way cut down particles release their neutrons might be a bit to rng.
Yeah it seems people are not super stoked about the RNG elements. I tried to make the atoms splitting into two subatomic particles true to real life, but it definitely makes it more frustrating to try to get chains in a predictable way.
Great game! I really enjoyed it.
Thanks I appreciate it!
Really nice game i think the idea is great and it fits the game jam theme really well i think it has a lot of potential Great job! :)
Thank you! I also found it cool that we both interpreted the theme into the mechanics of our games in kinda the same way.
Lovely game! The special effect on the sword that splits the atoms is cool!
Thanks! Unity's particle system is definitely a huge help when making effects like that.
The gameplay is very creative and rewarding, definitely lots of potential!
I appreciate it!
Love the idea! I will say scaling could be easier at first so it's not as tight. But what I was basically begging for was for the particle to bounce. Maybe that could be an upgrade. Had fun, good work!
Thanks for the feedback! And I like the idea of the particles bouncing I might have to add that in the future.
I really liked the idea, but I would tweak some values in code tho
1. I thing that the time when you can hit yellow particle is too short. For me I found it hard to sometimes run to the particle before it dies.
2. Not having to start everything from scratch every time you loose would be great. I think there should be an option to repeat only the level you failed.
3. The sword doesn't point directly at mouse cursor. At least on my machine there's around 45deg gap. It's a minor thing but still makes gameplay a bit harder so I would fix it.
Great game!
Thanks for the detailed feedback, it's much appreciated! I'll make sure to tweak some of the things you mentioned in later versions.
The Tutorial was a bit hidden so i could read it all but The gameplay on the other hand is really nice , GREAT JOB !
Yeah the UI is pretty wonky on the regular website page, but if you go full screen I think it should all be visible, but thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate it!
