Submission Description
The challenge I did was for PROCESSING..., it's at 100bpm.
Also I'm terrible at time management so, I barely made enough music for the jam, sorry about that. I didn't even finish a battle song in time (╥﹏╥)

For the game, I already wrote about it on the itch.io page, so I'll just copy paste what I wrote (btw the genre is a top-down pixel art rpg):

The game starts with your character, an adventurous teen walking through the woods, who finds a giant abandoned facility. Its towering presence and creepy vibes scare you off, so you turn the other way and head home. After walking for a bit, you find the same massive structure in front of you again - it seems to always be in front of you. With no other choice, you enter through the heavy metal doors.

turbine13 - Soon after entering the facility, you meet Turb13 (Turbie). He's a bumbling little propeller drone that follows you around and helps explain what you should do. He's kinda child-like in his behaviour despite being a programmed robot.

NUMBER_CRUNCH (ADDED AFTER SUBMISSIONS CLOSED! If you wanna listen to IMO the best song here, use the YT link) - After wandering around for a while, you reach of area of the facility which has many broken robots lying around. At this point, you must have already gone past dozens, when suddenly, one powers on and jumps at you and Turb13. You're now locked in a battle and this music starts playing.

"NUMBER_CRUNCH" is the general battle theme for the game for when you're fighting normal enemies. I love Deltarune, so I was thinking about Rude Buster a lot while making this song. If you've heard it, then you can probably hear the inspiration.

PROCESSING... - Turb13 keeps on mentioning how you should "be careful" and "not make too much noise" without explaining why. After getting mad at him for this, a loud static sound fills the dimly lit corridors. Turb13 yells at you to hide when one of the cracked monitors along the walls glows bright red. The security cameras turn on and survey the room. A booming robotic voice rings through the room, questioning Turb13 about what he was doing and if he saw anything happen. Turb13 covers for you and lies, then the cameras and screen turn off, and the static stops.

You ask Turb13 what that was and he explains to you that it's the LCPU, or Laboratory Central Processing Unit. Turb13 doesn't know what it wants, but it's always angry and looking for something.

MicrowaveOS - Some time later after exploring some more, you hear a voice shouting from around the corner. You and Turb13 investigate, and it's a microwave. He says his name's MicrOS (Micros) and that he's sick of being stuck in a microwave. According to him, he was an early version of the LCPU whose code was copied and put in a microwave. MicrOS is a lovable jerk who demands to be carried around so he can find a way of getting more power, in any way he can.

Really liked the theme and game design you came up with! The music fits very well with your theme and idea. Great work here. For processing, it gets a bit loud towards the end and that reverb is a bit high? Everything is very muddled sounding. Other then that, solid music here.

Happy you like it! And you're right about the end of PROCESSING, I think I have a bit of a habit of putting on too much reverb because it's something I've noticed in some of my other music. Thanks for pointing that out.

listened and rated a while ago but didn't leave a comment. this is subjective but for some reason parts of it remind me of castle crashers or alien hominid lol. i also find it light-hearted and fun, something i personally have a hard time making. i can definitely hear this in a game where it wouldn't be too monotonous, or overbearing to hear looping.

among the very few things i'd point out is the EQ'ing of the snares, as well as the hard synth in PROCESSING... though this could just be subjective taste.

all in all love it

Thanks for the advice, it's really appreciated. It's great that you don't find it monotonous, I try not to make stuff too repetitive.

turbine13 - I like that you have what almost sounds like a toy piano as the focal point in this track, I think it helps establish the idea that this character is child-like. To my ears this track feels a little bass heavy, like there's a lot of lower frequencies across the whole mix. If I were to give feedback for this track I'd consider reducing some of those 'muddier' frequencies a bit IMO.

PROCESSING... - Really like that beginning textures, feels quite robot-like. To me this feels like a boss fight with how dark and heavy it feels. Especially given the harmonic movement you used throughout. To me this feels like Turb13 tried to cover for the player after getting spotted, but not in a super convincing manner, and so a big boss fight ensues.

MicrowaveOS - This track in particular has me curious, because the description makes it sound like this character is a friend (or at the very least a temporary ally), but the vibe I get from this track makes it feel like an encounter with a foe. If this is intended to be foreshadowing in your hypothetical game, then well done. If not, maybe consider having some slightly brighter harmony  to make it feel less threatening IMO.

Overall I think this is a neat little soundtrack you put together that feels quite fitting for the game you described. If I were to give feedback on the submission as a whole, I'd say: 1.) Work just a bit more on balancing the volume between the tracks, as I found myself adjusting it throughout my listening, and; 2.) Maybe think more about the context of where these pieces of music would go. This is most definitely an opinion (as is my whole comment) based on just a couple of listens, but I didn't always feel like the tone of the tracks were as fitting to the moment in the game as they could have been. I think if this was tweaked a little bit then it could help connect the two a little more IMO.

Thanks for sharing what you've made, and keep up the good work :)

Thank you for the comprehensive feedback, I'm glad you liked it. I 100% get what you mean about the feel of the song not quite matching my description for MicrowaveOS, and in future that's probably something I'll adjust.

About the foreshadowing point, I think it was likely a subconscious thing as I always intended for a bit of a betrayal scene at some point followed by a fight against MicrOS.

Also sorry about the volume balance, that's something I could've easily fixed :/
