love what you've done here with the bird and puzzle elements! I only wish it was a little zoomed out so I could see more of the map but really cool mechanic given we only had one button! something fun would be if you let the bird fly/glide when pressing space in the air after jumping? great work!

Thanks a lot for the feedback! The game jam challenge was indeed a serious one. Once I managed to create the one-button control system, I decided to build on top of it with some puzzle mechanics.

The zoom idea is a really good point. Now I wish I had added a zoom option in the menu as well. Unfortunately, the time limit caught up with me, but I agree that an animation for the bird (which is actually a duck 😄) and some interesting sounds when landing would definitely have added some extra flavor to the game.

Thanks again for taking the time to play and share your thoughts!

Once I got a hang of the controls, this is such a fun lil game. The mechanic is a really creative use of one button, and love the intensifying music!

Maybe if the controlling was simpler or you turn it into a wasd game after this jam it would awesome game,

Now the concept is good but becuause of the controls it's complicated or kinda boring

I would like to try a wasd version after the jam ends

Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for playing my game!

I stuck to the jam theme by using only a single control button, which, surprisingly, works pretty well. That said, you're right—it does take some nerves of steel to finish it. I guess that's part of what makes this kind of challenge fun.

I've actually thought about reworking the game to use WASD controls after the jam as well. It would probably make it more accessible, although I think it would lose a bit of its charm and challenge.

It took me a while to understand how to rotate around, but once I figured that out, the controls arent really that hard. I did have to reset the game many times because I kept getting stuck inside obstacles. Good game, weird duck!

Developer

The weird duck says thanks for playing and for the feedback! 😄

It's interesting that you got stuck inside obstacles. I actually had the opposite problem during development—I kept going through them when they were supposed to stop me. 😅 It might be one of those weird WebGL physics quirks that I still haven't fully figured out.

The music getting faster put on the pressure! Luckily I managed to beat in on the first go so I won't have to watch whatever fate lied beyond the timer.

I found the jump / moving forward a bit inconsistent, and I I didn't realise I had to full screen to see the UI lol. Maybe you could adjust the viewport settings in your itch project? Also you mentioned in the description seeing the screen shots, but to get them to show on your project you need to click edit theme then edit it in the layout section. I only know cause I had the exact same issue (unless these issues are related to my device default settings, in which case sorry for this).

Besides that though, the sweep resetting after each stop and jump made it intuitive to maneuver, and I think it was a very well chosen difficulty. Great job, was genuinely fun to play!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed playing it.

The music is actually my own. I made it in Bespoke Synth by just experimenting with notes until I found something that matched the feeling of the time pressure.  As for the jumping and moving forward, it could be related to how WebGL handles the Rigidbody physics, since that's what I use to control the player. I'm still experimenting to find the best approach so my 3D games with physics feel as smooth in WebGL as they do in the Unity Editor.

And thanks for the tip about the Layout section! I had no idea that's where I needed to set up the screenshots.

P.S. I played your game too, and you did a really great job. I haven't managed to finish it yet, but I'm definitely not giving up and I'll come back to it. I especially loved the retro TV presentation—it gave the game a really nice atmosphere.

Oh wow, I've heard tales about the WebGL unity shenanigans. Both Bespoke Synth and WebGL seem to take a bit of skill to use, so great job there! And thanks for playing my game! Really appreciate the kind words. Awesome to hear that you want to come back to it, means I did something right lol.
