I found the concept really interesting! The idea of finding and examining books for excited fairies made for an interesting game idea - especially figuring out who to give what books to. The trapped books threw a wrench in things, which has the benefit of involving Patchouli and encouraging getting information on who'd like a particular book - and has the drawback of burning time away from getting the books to the fairies in time.

The backstory with Patchouli x Koakuma is very cute as well. On top of that, the books themselves have fun bits of writing. They keep the topics concise and don't go farther in depth than necessary, but they do give me a good idea of what each book is about and helps showcase the concept.

After streaming, I discovered that the code was AI-assisted (evidently referring to genAI). There are tools online that can check for minor issues (ex: missing commas, brackets, etc.). For finer details, I encourage you to seek out experienced people in the game dev communities! There's no harm in looking around & asking for help, whether for advice or even for programming partners as a team. It's a part of how one learns, combined with studying and the hands-on approach - and that especially goes given how much goes into a game project (music, visuals, programming, writing, and more).

Otherwise, you did good on this! It was worth playing.

i do not really get how to cater to fairies' preferences............they seem pretty vague.......patchouli is clear about the book's contents but what people say they want seems very disjointed from what they actually are interested in. also i have no idea how evil books are supposed to work i just triggered all of them at the start of the game on purpose so they would stop existing

however i think clicking on books and flapping them around with right click is awesome

edit: ai used for code :[ very uncool

I try to keep AI usage in coding to a minimum, but there are still so many things I'm learning for the first time in Godot. Because of that, I mostly ask for help with things like specific implementations or errors that I can't fix. I hope that one day I'll be able to make a game without AI.

Also, thanks for the criticism you and the others gave. Most of the issues were caused by not developing the actual game early enough and realizing those problems too late into development. The fairies have book tags that they like and dislike, and each book has its own tags, so the recommendations are based on which books have the best combination of tags. I think most of the pairings make sense, but I can see why some of them might feel off.

OMG, Patchy is Koakuma's wife. She even read Koakuma's entire yuri collection with her. Such a lovely backstory!

Koakuma, Patchy, Maid Fairies... All the characters in this game have cute sprites. While playing, I really enjoyed reading each book's synopsis and guessing which character each story was about. Some synopses even made me wish those books were real so I could read them from cover to cover.

I think it would be nice to be able to check the title of the book given to each fairy as well as each fairy's reaction on the screen where the player's performance can be viewed. I kept forgetting which book I gave to which fairy, so a few times I couldn't confirm what their favorite books were. And the Magical Book only delays gameplay for a moment, so it doesn't feel like a very threatening trap. This may also need improvement.

I think the concept is good and the potential yuri novels in her collection are fun to figure out, but the execution of the concept is pretty rough. The controls aren't great. There are a lot of pain points when it comes to doing actions, like having to use enter to advance text, despite being a mostly mouse operated game. Additionally, the act of identifying books at Patchy and then saving them for later is super annoying given I don't have any good place to organize them other than back where they were. I think this concept would benefit greatly taking on another form, maybe something like Diner Dash where you don't have to do this jarring transition between screens. It feels like the correct way to play this game is burn a bunch of runs just identifying the specific books and what preferences the individual fairies have so you don't have to spend so much time fumbling over giving them to Patchy. Again though, I really like the concept and the different books are fun, it's just hard to interface with.

TLDR: Concept with fun writing and lots of potential but hard to interface with

Interesting and cute concept. Playing through the game twice in a row without closing it, I got a black screen instead of the results screens. I liked how expressive the fairy maids were and their expressions made it easier to remember their book preferences.

Sorry for the error, it happened to me too, but it stopped happening without me fixing it. I thought it had fixed itself. I'll try to look it up.
