Very cool idea and nice execution! It's very impressive to have the pathing system working so well alongside an upgrade tree!
As other mentioned, the tutorial and general learning of the game is a bit overwhelming.
One possible fix could be some adjustments to the colors/artwork. I think the art and visuals are nice overall, but it's hard to see what parts of the screen are most important. For example, the ground/grass is "less important" than the stones and other resource objects. Maybe some higher contrast artwork for the important objects and lower contrast artwork for more background elements could help organize the information on the screen. Outlines would also probably work just as well.
Hopefully that helps a bit! Making a complex game and then having to explain it in a clear way is super difficult. Great job making a game so deep within the time period!!
I loved this game!! The art is so nice and I really liked the added complexity of the hidden terrain while making new ant paths. It was satisfying to win! and i can't believe this only took two weeks, esp as your first game jam game
I love how in depth this is but at the same time it feels too bombarding to have a massive tutorial.
I'm not sure how to fix this though, the game needs explanation because its complex but maybe the elements could be slowly introduced instead of all at once? Regardless good job assembling this in 2 weeks
Wow this game is complicated and well thought for a jam! Great job!
Wow, fantastic game especially for a first game jam entry! I really enjoyed playing it and managed to destroy the chemicals with a few seconds left. The idea is great and it was a lot of fun building up the ant empire. The art and soundtrack are great, too.
I noticed there are upgrades that increase the ants strength against human attacks. I'm wondering if a human attack would have happened when the timer reached zero or if my colony would have simply died instead. Amazing job! :)
When we originally planned our game, we had hopes of implementing a combat system against humans but due to scope simplified to just attacking the chemicals. Upgrading strength just allows you to destroy the ant killer faster. Would have loved to implement it though. If you ran out the colony would have died and it would have been game over.
I really like this. The art style is fantastic and the gameplay is satisfying. Just seeing all my spiraling paths and growing number of ant hills make my brain go awooga. I tried the tutorial though and it did confuse me, but then when I played everything made sense, other than that very cool.
This game has a lot of potential, I really enjoyed it and wish there was more levels! The tutorial is a bit confusing (lots of information) so it would probably benefit from being more slowed down and giving the player more time to learn stuff. But the game is fun once you get the hang of it. The optimal strategy seems to be just spamming loads of colonies and letting your population skyrocket; you would probably need some way to stop this otherwise the game is trivial. But it was really fun managing everything and the trail mechanic is super unique!
Was very fun, and actually took some skill - Loved the art too!
I really liked the artstyle, the idea of the game is quite nice too! There's a suprising amount of content in this game, good job!
