I would advise caution for a few reasons:
1. The new version is from a different author; an explanation of this was included with the 2.3.0 build and may be 100% legit but FieryLion has not said anything either way.
2. The web build is missing
3. Itch may have gotten actual reports and the 'try my game' scam is real.
I'd recommend trying this new build in a sandbox or virtual environment at the very least - just to be on the safe side.

Your decision ultimately. The game was quarantined long before v2.0+ came out. I've been trying to email itch support but they won't respond. I'm not sure why they've tagged it as such but will update whatever is needed if they do get back to me. If you don't feel comfortable with the game being marked that's perfectly valid.
